- A yellow exclamation appears next to my name when using VoIP
- I see a yellow exclamation mark appearing next to my name when using VoIP Audio.
- There’s a warning sign on my headset icon in the Participant’s panel.
- Error: To hear others speak, unmute your system volume.
- Error: To speak in the session, unmute your system microphone.
- I see an exclamation mark next to my name when using Call Computer in a Webex meeting.
Note:
- The procedures described in this article are applicable to Windows 7. The procedures will be different for various operating systems.
- It is still possible for you (or the host) to mute or unmute your microphone while the meeting is in progress.
Cause:
When the volume for your speakers or headset is turned down in the sound settings of your computer, the exclamation mark will show. This is a separate setting from any mute options that may be available within the conference window itself.
If you move your cursor over the exclamation mark, you will get an indicator that tells you if your microphone or speakers are muted:
- The volume of your speakers has been turned down, so you won’t be able to hear anyone else speaking throughout the session:
To hear others speak, unmute your system volume.
- Your microphone is muted, and as a result, the other participants in the session will not be able to hear you speak:
To speak in the session, unmute your system microphone
This means that the volume for either your speakers or your microphone is turned down in the settings for your computer hardware.
Solution:
To correct the problem:
If your speakers are muted:
1 Double-click the speaker icon that is located in the bottom-right hand corner of your computer:
2 To unmute the device, click the speaker icon in the toolbar:
If the volume on your microphone is turned down:
1 Open Control Panel. 2 Free and clear. 3 To record audio, select the Recording tab. 4 Double-click the recording device that you are now utilizing, which is the microphone, as follows: 5 To access the Levels tab, click here. 6 Click the icon of the microphone, which is displayed below muted:
The icon will change such that it indicates that the volume is not muted:
7 Apply, then click the OK button.
It is expected that the yellow exclamation mark will no longer be shown in the Participant list now that the muting of your speakers and microphone has been removed from the settings on your computer.
