Key Expansion Module Setup for the Cisco 6800 Series: an Overview
The Cisco IP Phone 6800 Key Expansion Module provides the phone with additional programmable buttons that can be customized. The programmable buttons have the ability to be configured as either speed-dial buttons or phone feature buttons.
There is only room for a single key expansion module in the Cisco IP Phone 6851 Multiplatform Phone. The key expansion module gives the user access to 14 lines’ worth of programmable buttons across two pages. Each page includes a total of 14 lines or buttons.
Buttons and other Pieces of Hardware for the Key Expansion Module
The following table describes the features of the key expansion module.

LCD screens—Displays the phone number, name, and icon. Icons indicate the line status and the phone service assigned on that line. |

Lighted buttons—14 buttons. Each button corresponds to one line (same as on the phone). The lights beneath each button indicate the state of the corresponding line as follows:

Page buttons—2 buttons. The button for page 1 is labeled as 1 and the button for page 2 is labeled as 2. The lights in each button indicate the state of the page as follows:

Your administrator may inquire about the key expansion module that was introduced to your phone and request more information about it. For the purposes of troubleshooting, this information provides a one-of-a-kind identifier for the key expansion module.
- Start the Application Process.
- Go to the Status menu and select Accessories.
- Select Attendant Console Unit1 .
- Get the Full Details.
- On the screen that lists the details about the Accessories, you will notice the following:
This field displays the name that has been given to the key expansion module.

- If the linked key expansion module is active or disabled, respectively, the “Unit enabled” indicator will display either “Yes” or “No.”
- Displays online for the unit: If the attached key expansion module is online or offline, respectively, the answer is either yes or no.
- The hardware version of the key expansion module is displayed by this functionVersion of software: Shows the current version of the software that is installed in the key extension module.
- The VID displays the extension number on the calling phone from which the outbound call originates.
- Serial number This button displays the key extension module’s serial numberDisplays the name that you have given the key expansion module in the product name field.A description of the key expansion module will be displayed if this option is selected. - Make necessary adjustments to the Key Expansion Module’s Contrast

You may make the display on the key extension module easier to read by adjusting the level of contrast on the screen.
- Start the Application Process.
- Navigate to the Attendant console preferences under the User Preferences menu.
- Set the desired level of contrast.
- If you want to lessen the contrast, press the Navigation cluster down, and if you want to raise it, press up.
- To store the current contrast level, press the store button.
You can change the Display Mode of the Key Expansion Module by going to the Phone
- pressing the Applications button.
- Navigate to the Attendant console preferences under the User Preferences menu.
- Choose the Display mode you want to use.
- To select a display mode, you must first press the Select button located on the Navigation cluster.
- The choices are as follows:

- Ext
6. To save the current display mode, use the Save button.
