Advanced polling and quizzing for webinars in zoom
It is possible to create single choice or multiple choice polling questions for webinars, while advanced polling enables you to create matching, ranked choice, short answer, and long answer polling questions. As well as setting correct answers, you can also set up the poll as a quiz if you wish.
The poll can be launched during the meeting and you will be able to gather the responses from the participants during the meeting. The polling reports, which are available after the meeting by default, but can also be made available during the live session, contain all the details regarding the results of the poll, such as each participant’s answers and the time at which they responded. If you do not wish to collect information regarding the participants of your poll, you can conduct the poll anonymously.
It is also possible to create and launch basic polls using this tool.
Creating standard polls or advanced polls in a webinar is also available.

- Linux: version 5.8.3 or higher

- Android: version 5.8.3 or higher

Limitations for advanced polling
-
When it comes to adding and editing polls during a webinar, only the original webinar host has the ability to do so by default. The user who is given the role of host or co-host will only be able to launch polls that have already been created if the role of host or co-host is transferred to that user. Adding or editing polls can be done by alternative hosts, but the host must enable the setting for allowing them to do so.
-
There is a requirement that all webinar participants be on the supported version or higher, otherwise they will not be able to see or participate in an advanced poll or quiz during the webinar. Alternatively, if you are not able to upgrade to the minimum version, we recommend that you use the web client to join.
-
A single meeting can have a maximum of 50 polls, each with a maximum of 50 questions, and each poll can have a maximum of 50 responses.
-
The poll report will only display the last time a poll was launched in a webinar, if the poll is relaunched in a webinar. To avoid relaunching the same poll twice, consider creating a second poll with the same questions as the original poll if you know you will need to launch the same poll twice and want both sets of data.
-
It is required that the uploaded images be either PNG or JPEG format, and they can not exceed 2MB in size.
How to create an advanced poll
There is the option of creating a polling question in advance of the webinar, or to do it during the live session. A user who creates or edits a poll during a live meeting will be directed to a web portal to complete the process, and you will be able to modify it there as well.
-
Zoom’s web portal can be accessed by signing in.
-
Click the Webinars link in the navigation menu of the site.
-
If you are scheduled to participate in a webinar, click on the topic you are interested in. If you do not have a scheduled webinar, you can schedule one right away if you do not already have one.

Answers to the prompts can be arranged in the order that is most convenient for you. For each question, a maximum of 9 prompts can be provided, with the possibility of matching between 2-9 options being provided for each prompt.
- Rank Order: Each item on the poll can be ranked by poll participants based on a scale that is provided. Each question can be answered with up to ten items, and the scale can offer a range between two and seven options for each item.
- Short Answer: A short answer response can be provided by poll participants as their response to the poll. A character limit and a maximum character limit can be set in the response box.
- Long Answer: The participants of the poll have the option of responding with a long answer. This can be set to the maximum and minimum number of characters allowed in the response.
- Fill in the blank: The poll participants are presented with a statement and a blank. On the basis of the statement and other context provided, they are asked to fill in the blanks with the missing information. It is possible for the answer boxes for each blank to be separated, so that they can be added in multiples.
- Rating scale: In a poll, a statement or topic is given to a participant and they are then asked to rate the statement or topic based on a given scale. In addition to the standard range of 1-10, the ends of the scale can also be labeled to indicate what the scale is based on, for example, Not likely to Extremely likely, indicating the point on the scale where it is based.

For each choice, click the blank if you would like to enter an answer for participants to choose from

With the help of polls, you can create or edit your webinars and use them to gather feedback. As soon as a poll is marked as available to all webinars, it will appear in the list of polls that can be launched during a webinar when it is ticked as available to all webinars.
The maximum number of polls/quizzes that can be enabled for your webinar is 10. Version 5.10.3 or greater is required in order to access polls created in the central poll library when in a webinar.

How to launch a poll or quiz
Attendees are not immediately able to participate in polls, because the host needs to launch a poll for the attendees to take part in before the poll can be accessed. It is possible to create these polls beforehand, or during a live webinar, but either way the poll needs to be created on the web portal before the webinar starts.
-
Start the webinar that has been scheduled with polling enabled.
-
Click on the Polls/Quizzes button in the webinar controls to take part in the polls or quizzes.
-
Please choose the poll or quiz you would like to launch from the top of the polling window (if you have created multiple polls or quizzes).
-
The panelists can vote by clicking on Allow panelists to vote (optional).
-
Launch the application by clicking the Launch button.
The participants of the webinar will now be prompted to answer the polling questions that will be asked during the webinar. A live feed of the results will be available to the host so that they can see them in real time. -
You can end the poll at any time by clicking the End Poll button once you are finished voting.
-
The following options can be accessed by clicking the button:
- Re-launch Poll: A new poll will be launched.
Note: It is also possible that the poll report will only display the last occurrence of the poll if the poll is relaunched in a webinar. Consider creating a second poll containing the same questions as the original poll if you are aware that you will need to launch the poll multiple times and would like both sets of data, so you won’t have to repeat the process twice.
- Download results: By clicking on this, your default web browser will launch so that you will be able to download the entire poll report, which shows what each participant chose rather than the percentage of each choice that each participant made.
Note: The Zoom Support team can assist you with enabling this feature if you wish.
- View Results from Browser: You will be prompted to open your default web browser and you will be presented with the same results as in the poll.
- Re-launch Poll: A new poll will be launched.
-
It is possible to share the meeting results with participants by clicking on the Share Results button.
-
For the answers to be displayed to viewers, make sure that the box next to Show correct answers to all is selected.
