Black screen during screen sharing in Zoom App
Introduction
Follow these steps to troubleshoot a black screen during your screen sharing in a meeting.
Please note:
- Apple is working to resolve this issue if you are experiencing it on MacOS Big Sur. Change your network connection settings to TCP until the problem is fixed, or use a wireless connection.
- Using a Windows device, you can troubleshoot the screen flickering issue by following these steps.
Windows
A graphics card with automatic-graphics switching (such as an Nvidia card) could cause the black screen during screen sharing.
- The Nvidia Control Panel can be found in the Windows Control Panel.
- Select Manage 3D Settings.
- Under I would like to use the following 3D settings, click on Program Settings.
- The Zoom bin directory contains Cpthost.exe, which should be added under Select a program to customize.
- Click the Add button.
- Find Cpthost.exe from the Zoom bin directory (located at C:/>Users>YOURUSERNAME>AppData>Roaming>Zoom>bin).
- Select the program and click Add.
- Click on Integrated graphics under Preferred Graphics Processor
- and then click Apply.
- Try sharing your screen with Zoom again.
Linux
Compositing is required for the share screen feature. To install xcompmgr, a third-party compositor, follow these steps.
Xcompmgr installation
Use your Linux distro’s package manager to install xcompmgr. Search for xcompmgr in your package manager (such as Synaptics).
To run the relevant command on your Linux distro, open the terminal and type:
Linux Mint, Ubuntu, or Debian
sudo apt install xcompmgr
openSUSE
zypper install xcompmgr
Fedora
dnf install xcompmgr
Arch Linux
Instructions can be found on the Arch Linux wiki.
Configuring xcompmgr
Run the following command after installing:
xcompmgr -c -l0 -t0 -r0 -o.00
