Change your Webex site URL
When you sign up for an account, your Webex site URL is based on your email address. It can, however, be changed to something more appropriate for your company or for you.
Overview
You will have to change the name of your Webex site during the site renaming process, and your meeting addresses and user attributes will also be updated.
You may need to wait 24 hours before seeing the new URL after changing it during business hours or during a maintenance window. Meetings scheduled on your behalf may be unable to be hosted; users may also be unable to join meetings scheduled on your behalf during this time.
Redirect your old Webex site to your new site
The old Webex site address can be redirected to the new one for 90 days after you rename your Webex site. The old URL automatically redirects you to the new one when you attempt to access the Webex site. In addition to meeting attendees, the new URL for the meeting is also forwarded. After the site renaming process is complete, the old Webex site address no longer works if you do not redirect the Webex site.
General Limitations
-
It is not possible to stop the renaming process once it has begun.
-
We recommend renaming your site within 24 hours. How long it takes to rename the Webex site depends on how many users are on it. You will need more time to rename your Webex site if you have more users.
-
After the site renaming process is completed, the old Webex site name becomes available for reuse by other organizations if the old site doesn’t get redirected to the renamed one.
Webex Hybrid Calendar Service
-
Previously scheduled meetings are not updated by the Hybrid Calendar Service. Meetings that have already been scheduled cannot be started or joined without a redirect (or an expired redirect).
Update your Personal Room settings in Webex App to ensure proper scheduling of new meetings. In order to update the default configuration of a Hybrid Calendar Service, users should follow these steps:
-
For Microsoft Exchange or Office 365, go to Applications > Hybrid Services > Calendar Service > Cisco Conferencing Services Configuration and find the default Webex site.
-
You can access cloud-based services for Office 365 through the Control Hub from the customer view. Click on the Edit settings button to edit the settings of the hybrid calendar card with the Office 365 logo on it.
-
A cloud-based service for Google Calendar is available through Control Hub. Go to the Services tab under the customer view in Control Hub. You can edit the settings of the hybrid calendar card with the Google Calendar logo by clicking on it.
-
Webex Meetings
-
The setting up of the new Webex site requires that you redirect your old Webex site to the renamed one, otherwise you won’t be able to join or start meetings that were created before the renamed Webex site was created.
Control Hub
-
There is an option to sign in to Control Hub during the site renaming process, but you cannot change the settings for the Webex site in Control Hub.
-
While you are renaming your Webex site, you should not add or modify users to it, or assign licenses to it when you are renaming. This will avoid any disruption of your Webex service.
-
The renaming of the Webex site may have an effect on users who have not activated their accounts in your organization. You will have to reassign their licenses in order to ensure that their user attributes are updated when the Webex site has been renamed.
-
In users’ activation emails sent before renaming the Webex site, the address for the Webex site does not appear to be updated when the site is renamed.
Video Devices and Webex Board
-
After the 90 day redirection period has passed and the Join button has been clicked more than 90 times, you will not be able to use the Join button for video devices or Webex Boards if they were used for meetings that were created before the Webex site was renamed. In order to schedule a new Webex meeting with the new site name, the existing one must be canceled by the meeting organizer.
If you choose not to redirect the video device and Webex board joining buttons for 90 days, then you will be able to use them right away.
Rename your site
You should contact the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) if you receive an error message when renaming a Webex site.
