Changing chat settings on your mobile device in Zoom
Overview
On your mobile device, you can customize your chat settings, so you can decide what types of notifications you want to receive, how to handle unread messages, when to receive notifications, and how to be notified.
Zoom’s desktop client also allows you to change your chat notification settings.
Prerequisites
- Zoom mobile app for iOS and Android
Changing your chat settings
- Click the Settings (gear) icon
- and then tap Chat.
- Edit the settings or toggle the toggle if necessary.
- Whenever your message contains a link, include a link preview with the page title, preview image, and description.
- Receive Notifications For
- Every Message
- Only private messages and mentions: Show notifications for private 1-on-1 chats and any mentions of @(your name) in any channel (group chat).
- None.
- When it comes to groups: Set exceptions if you want specific channels to have different notification settings than the ones you set above.
To open the iOS notification settings for Zoom, tap Turn on Notifications if you don’t see these options.
- Unread Messages

- Keep all unread messages at the top: Move chats with unread messages to the top of your list of chats.
- The number of unread messages for each channel will be displayed beside each chat.
- Scroll to the bottom of the chat to see messages with new replies.
- Get notified about keywords: Select keywords you would like to be notified about.
- Let me know when new messages are replied to.
- Disable notifications while in a meeting: Disable notifications while inTurn off notifications for this device temporarily or set a time when you do not want to receive notifications.ifications.
- When viewing unread messages in a channel
- Start at the first unread
- Start at the latest
- Show message preview
- When to Notify Me
- Always, even if I am active on desktop: Always receive notifications on your phone even if you are active on the desktop client.
- Only when I am not active on desktop: Only receive notification on your phone if you are inactive on the desktop client.
- In-App Vibrate: Vibrate when a notification is displayed.
- In-App Alert Sound: Play a sound when a notification is displayed.
