Changing settings in the PWA client in zoom app
The Progressive Web App (PWA) and the web client offer some settings that can be adjusted and set, without requiring the user to make any changes to the underlying web portal settings. In order to connect to the web client, you can install the PWA, which is a browser extension that can be installed on ChromeOS devices as well as web browsers, or you can join from a join URL by clicking the Join from Your Browser link.
How to edit in-meeting web client settings
-
With the web client, you can join a meeting or start one.
-
On the meeting toolbar, you will find an option called Settings.
By clicking the settings button, you will be able to access the following options in the settings window:
General
-
Maximum participants displayed per screen in Gallery View: There is a choice of either 9 participants or 25 participants (depending on the device you are using)
-
Show profile photos next to in-meeting chat messages: A picture of the participant’s profile will be displayed in the chat window while the meeting is in progress. Participants whose images are not available will have their initials displayed instead in the event that no image is available.
-
Display your reactions above toolbar: In the meeting, you will be able to see your selected reactions above the toolbar.
-
Reaction Skin Tone: When using chat emoticons and meeting reactions, select the skin tone you want to use as the default.
Video
-
Turn off my video when joining a meeting: When you join a meeting, your video will automatically be disabled.
-
Hide non-video participants: When participants are not enabled for video, their thumbnails will be hidden. For participants who did not participate in the video, their names appear in the thumbnail.
-
See myself as the active speaker while speaking: As you speak, place your video on your own screen as your primary active speaker so that everyone can hear what you are saying.
-
Use hardware acceleration for: To save CPU resources for other processes, you can enable the graphics card on your device to use its video instead of the CPU. It is possible to enable this feature for receiving videos as well as sending videos. In order for the changes to take effect, the web client will have to be refreshed.
Audio
-
Speaker: You can play a test tone by clicking the Test Speaker button. Choose the speaker you want Zoom to use from the drop-down menu that appears when you click the drop-down menu.
-
Microphone: In order to record and play back audio, click Test Mic on the main menu. To select the microphone Zoom should use, click the drop-down menu next to the Drop-down menu.
-
Automatically join audio by computer when joining a meeting: The ability to join meetings automatically with computer audio, rather than displaying a prompt to join a meeting, is available.
-
Mute my mic when joining a meeting
-
Press and hold ‘Space key’ to temporarily unmute yourself: While you are muted in a meeting, you can unmute yourself by pressing and holding the SPACE bar on your keyboard at the same time.
Background
-
Upload background button : This feature allows you to upload a background image for use with the masking feature of the web client. The feature works in a similar manner to the Virtual Background function on the desktop client.
-
Background selection: You can use any of the background images that have been uploaded.
-
Mirror my video: Flip your video horizontally by clicking the button below. If your camera automatically flips the video when you take it, then this option is very useful for you.
-
Virtual Background: It is more similar to a virtual background without the use of a green screen rather than a mask background, which has a static shape to allow for a clear view of your face. It is compatible with devices that have at least four logical cores, as well as four real cores or two cores, each with four threads. On devices only meeting processor requirements, this may still reduce performance.
