Choose your audio and video settings before you join a meeting or webinar in Webex
The preview window gives you the ability to select your audio and video, as well as check that everything appears to be in working order, before you attend a meeting, webinar, or event. Before you attend a meeting or webinar, select the method by which you want to connect to the audio, decide whether you want to mute or unmute your microphone, and decide whether you want your video to be on or off.
To adjust audio and video settings in a Webex meeting or webinar, follow these steps:
- Click on “Audio options” and select how you want to hear the audio:
- Computer audio: Use your computer’s headset or speakers. Choose your preferred speaker and microphone and click “Test” to verify your audio settings.
- Call me: Enter or select a phone number for the meeting to call you. Check “Connect to audio without pressing 1” to connect to the meeting audio immediately after answering the call.
- Call in: Dial in from your phone using the global call-in numbers provided after joining the meeting. Enter the access code or meeting number and attendee ID to join the meeting.
- Don’t connect to audio: Choose this option if you’re in a meeting room with others and want to use your computer to share content in the meeting.
- Choose to mute or unmute your audio before joining the meeting:
- Click “Mute” to join the meeting with your audio muted.
- If using the Webex app on a connected device, click “Mute device”.
- Click “Unmute” (or “Unmute device”) when you want to speak. Note that in some meetings, the host may prevent attendees from unmuting themselves.
- Click on “Video options” and select from the following:
- Camera: If you have multiple cameras connected, select the one you want to use.
- Choose your video background options.
- Choose to turn your video on or off by clicking “Stop video”. This option is useful if you want to join the meeting with your video turned off.
To get started, open the Webex Meetings app and select the audio connection options. Then, choose your preferred audio method:
- Use Internet for Audio: This option allows you to use your phone with earbuds or on speakerphone to hear the meeting audio.
- Call Me: You can enter or select the number that you want the meeting to call.
- Call In: You can dial in from your phone using a global call-in number available in the meeting invite. Take note of the access code or meeting number and the attendee ID as you will need to enter these to join the meeting. Your attendee ID links your name in the meeting to your audio. If you do not enter it, your audio will appear as a call-in user in the Participants list, separate from your name.
Choose one of the available numbers to join the meeting and enter the required access code or meeting number and attendee ID when prompted. If you do not have your attendee ID, press # to wait in the lobby until someone in the meeting lets you in.
If you do not want to hear any audio through your phone, select the “Don’t Connect Audio” option. This is useful when you are in the meeting room but want to use your phone to share content in the meeting.
To join the meeting with your audio muted, tap the “Mute my microphone” button. When you want to speak in the meeting, tap “Unmute my microphone”. However, note that in some meetings, the host may have disabled attendees’ ability to unmute themselves. If this is the case, the “Unmute” button will be locked until the host allows you to unmute.
If you want to join the meeting with your video turned off, tap the “Turn off my video” button. Tap “Turn on my video” when you want to show your video.
Lastly, the app will remember your selected settings and use them as defaults for your next meeting.
To begin, access the audio connection options in the Webex Meetings web app. Then, choose your preferred audio method:
- Computer audio (default): This option enables you to use your computer’s headset or speakers.
- Call me at: You can enter a phone number and Webex will call you. Note that this option may not be available depending on your Webex plan.
- Call in: This option allows you to use your phone for audio by dialing in when the meeting starts. A list of global call-in numbers will be provided in your meeting invite. Choose this option if your Internet connection is slow. Remember to take note of the access code or meeting number and the attendee ID, as you will need to enter these to join the meeting. Your attendee ID is essential in linking your name in the meeting to your audio. If you do not enter it, your audio will appear as a call-in user in the Participants list, separate from your name.
Choose one of the available numbers to join the meeting and input the required access code or meeting number and attendee ID. If you do not have your attendee ID, press # to wait in the lobby until someone in the meeting lets you in.
If you do not require audio, select the “Don’t connect to audio” option. This is useful when you are in a conference room with your team or someone has already connected to the meeting from a video device.
To join the meeting with your audio muted, click the “Mute” button. When you want to speak in the meeting, click “Unmute.” However, note that in some meetings, the host may have disabled attendees’ ability to unmute themselves. If this is the case, the “Unmute” button will be locked until the host allows you to unmute.
If you want to join the meeting with your video turned off, click the “Stop video” button. Click “Start video” when you want to show your video.
Finally, note that the web app will remember your chosen settings and use them as defaults the next time you use it.
