Configuring the Citrix virtual channel allow list policy in zoom
In Citrix ICA policies, there is an option that allows you to determine whether a virtual channel can be allocated to a specific application. Opening a virtual channel is required for Zoom Meeting on VDI. In order to provide an optimized meeting and Zoom Phone experience for the end user, Zoom uses the virtual channel to connect to the Zoom VDI plugin installed on the thin client.
The default virtual channel allow list policy in Citrix VDA 2109 has changed from “Enabled” to “Disabled”, as a result of the update. Despite the fact that you did not change any policies on an existing installation, this is still what happens when you upgrade it. A virtual channel can be opened by Zoom only after additional steps have been taken.
This article covers:
- How to change the virtual channel allow list policy to disabled
- How to add values for Zoom VDI client to the virtual channel allow list
Prerequisites for configuring the Citrix virtual channel allow list policy for Zoom
It is assumed that the reader of this article is familiar with Citrix Studio and has both the access and permissions required to make the changes described in this article.
How to change the virtual channel allow list policy to disabled
The easiest way to ensure that Zoom creates and opens a virtual channel so that it can connect to the VDI plugin is to set the setting for the virtual channel allow list to “disabled”, which will prevent Zoom from creating and opening a virtual channel. After updating the policy to release 2109, the state of the policy can be changed back to “disabled” if the policy was changed from “enabled” to “enabled”.
If you are going to use Citrix Studio, you will need to navigate to the ICA policies section within Citrix Studio. Change the virtual channel allow list policy to “disabled” by finding the location where the virtual channel allow list policy can be updated.
Note: It is recommended that you disable the virtual channel allow list for your virtual desktops if you allow end users to download and install software themselves via the virtual desktops. A policy exception based on the application path for all users (provided below) cannot be created based on the installation default for individual users unless the installation default for “all users” has been selected.
How to add values for the Zoom VDI client to the virtual channel allow list
The Zoom application must be added to the list of allowed applications if you want to keep the policy configured for “enabled” in terms of the virtual channel allow list policy.

It is recommended that you add the following values to the virtual channel allow list policy in Citrix Studio by copying and pasting the following values for Zoom VDI client installation:
