Conversion of Zoom meetings and webinars

An Overview

The Zoom meeting and webinar platforms provide a similar characteristic and functionality but there are some key differences. Zoom Meetings are designed as a collaborative event where all parties can see, hear and share, while webinars are designed so that hosts and designated panel members can share and only viewers can see the presentation. If you have scheduled an event as a Zoom meeting or webinar that would be more appropriate than the others, you can convert it within the Zoom web portal.

Prerequisites

  • The host user type must be licensed and the webinar add-on must be assigned
  • The scheduled meeting must use an automatically generated meeting ID; Cannot be scheduled with PMI

 Convert the meeting to a webinar

During the conversion from a Zoom meeting to a webinar, the registration URL will remain the same, those who have already registered they can still join to the same link as before, and the meeting settings and registrations will also be transferred to the webinar.

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
  2. Go to the navigation panel and click on Meetings.
  3. Click the name of the meeting you want to convert to a webinar.
  4. To the right of the Start and Edit buttons, click Convert this meeting to a webinar.
  5. Confirm that you want to change this meeting into a webinar by clicking Convert.

Converting a webinar to a Zoom meeting

While converting from the webinar to the zoom meeting, webinar-only features, such as Q&A, multiple-answer questions, webinar-related email settings, and post-webinar surveys, will be lost. The registration page URL will change, but the old registration page will be redirected to the new page and retain the logo and banner from the branding. If the webinar is registered, the panelists will be converted to registrants, and those who are already registered they can join the link as before. The registration report will be moved from the webinar reports to the meeting reports, as well as the attendee report will be moved to Use / Active Hosts (for admin). If the webinar is recurring and one or more sessions have already taken place before the conversion, reports for sessions running as a webinar will still be available under webinar reporting.

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
  2. In the navigation panel, click Webinars.
  3. Click the name of the webinar you want to convert to a Zoom meeting.
  4. To the right of the Start and Edit buttons, click Convert this webinar to a Zoom meeting.
  5. Confirm that you want to convert this webinar into a meeting by clicking Convert.
