Enabling Peer-to-peer connection for 2 people in a meeting in zoom app
A one-to-one meeting can be configured to route data between two participants (peer-to-peer), instead of having it routed through the cloud or through a server, which would normally be the case. As a result of enabling this, the quality and connection of one-to-one meetings might be improved since video and audio can be sent directly between both parties (depending on how your network prioritizes traffic).
The Zoom cloud infrastructure will be used by the meeting when a third participant joins a one-to-one meeting or when somebody disconnects and reconnects to a one-to-one meeting, instead of using the peer-to-peer connection that is used by a peer-to-peer meeting.
Prerequisites for enabling Peer-to-peer connection while only 2 people in a meeting
-
An account with Zoom that is paid for
-
Ownership or administrative privileges of an account
Limitations for Peer-to-Peer meeting connections
-
There is only one local network that supports peer-to-peer connections, and that network must be located in the same area of the world.
Enabling Peer-to-peer connection while only 2 people in a meeting
For all users in an account to be able to join a meeting while only two people are present in the meeting, the following must be done:
-
Admins have the privilege to edit account settings as part of the Zoom web portal as long as they are logged in as an administrator.
-
You can access the Account Settings menu by clicking the Account Management link in the navigation panel.
-
To access the Meeting tab, click the Meeting button.
-
Check the Peer to Peer connection is enabled under the menu option In Meeting (Advanced) when only two people are present in a meeting.
-
The setting can be enabled by clicking the toggle to the left of the setting if it is disabled. To verify your changes, you may be prompted to click on the Turn On button in a confirmation dialog box.
Modifying Listening ports range
As a communication endpoint, the listening port is used to identify applications and processes on the network, looking for potential connections, and identifying those applications and processes. There should be no more than two people in a meeting setting, so for the peer to peer connection to work, there should be a range of ports from 1 to 65535.
To modify Listening ports range:
-
When only two people are in a meeting, ensure that peer-to-peer connections are enabled for that meeting.
-
You can select the Listening port range checkbox by selecting the check box.
-
In the boxes below, you will need to enter a range from 1 to 65535.
-
Then click the Save button.
