Enabling stereo audio in zoom App
If your microphone is capable of processing stereo audio, then you can send audio in stereo during meetings and webinars. Zoom will encode audio in stereo after you enable this setting. Live music performances can be shared using this setting. You will need an audio interface or microphone that supports stereo.
Note:
Zoom desktop client supports stereo audio only for meetings and webinars. Zoom mobile app and recordings do not support stereo audio (audio will be mono).
Prerequisites for enabling stereo audio
- Pro, Business, Education, or Enterprise account
- Basic user
- Account owner or admin privileges
Enabling Allow users to select stereo audio in their client settings
Account
All users in the account will be able to select stereo audio in their client settings if:
- Log in as an administrator to the Zoom web portal.
- Choose Account Management from the navigation panel.
- Select Meetings.
- Make sure that Allow users to select stereo audio is enabled in their client settings under In Meeting (Advanced).
- To enable the setting, click the toggle. To confirm the change, click Turn On in the verification dialog box.
- You can make this setting mandatory for all users in your account by clicking the lock icon , followed by clicking Lock to confirm.
Group
Note:
The Group Management page has been renamed to Groups if you created a new Zoom account after August 21, 2021; or if the New Admin Experience is enabled on your account.
Users can select stereo audio in their client settings for a group of users by enabling the following:
- You must be an administrator with group editing privileges to access the Zoom web portal.
- Navigate to User Management then click Group Management.
- On the Settings tab, select the appropriate group name.
- Select the Meeting tab.
- Verify that Allow users to select stereo audio in their client settings is enabled under In Meeting (Advanced).
- If it is disabled, click the toggle to enable it. Verify the change by clicking Turn On if a verification dialog box appears.
Greyed out options have been locked at the account level and must be changed there. - Click the lock icon to make this setting mandatory for all users in the group. To confirm the setting, click Lock.
User
For your own use, you may allow users to select stereo audio in the client settings:
- Zoom’s web portal can be accessed here.
- Select Settings from the navigation panel.
- Select Meetings.
- Verify that the Allow users to select stereo audio in their client settings is enabled under the In Meeting (Advanced) section.
- If it is disabled, turn it on by clicking the toggle switch next to the setting. If a confirmation dialog box appears, click Turn On to verify the changes.
The grayed out option means that it has been locked either at the group level or at the account level. You will need to contact your Zoom administrator.
Enabling stereo audio in the Zoom desktop client
If you sign out of the Zoom client and then sign back in, the users (that you enabled this audio setting for) will be able to select Stereo audio in their audio settings after they have signed out and then signed back in.
- Connect to the Zoom desktop client by logging in.
- After logging in, select Settings from the drop down menu.
- Select the Audio tab.
- Under Music and Professional Audio, select the Show in-meeting option to check the box next to “Original Sound.”.
- Then check the box next to Stereo Audio.
If you are joining a meeting or webinar from your computer, you will now be able to hear stereo audio when you turn on the original sound.
