European Union data migration for Webex sites in Control Hub
Customers located inside the European Union (EU) now have the opportunity to move their data from the data center located in London to the data center located in Frankfurt, since the new data center in Frankfurt is now fully operational.
Migrating your Webex site to the EU
Customers in the European Union who choose to move their data from our previous data center in London to the new one in Frankfurt will be able to do so once the new data center in Frankfurt is fully operational. Because we want to make it as simple as possible for you to transfer your data, we have taken the following steps:
Showing you where your data is stored— You are now able to view in Control Hub which data centers your Webex sites are mapped to. Transparency has been our driving concept in developing this feature. You may use this information to evaluate the potential influence on your organization’s operations as well as any issues it may raise. This information is shown in the Account > Data Locations menu option.

Migrating your data to the new Frankfurt data center— In the past, the primary data center serving European Union clients was located in London, with a secondary data center made accessible in Amsterdam. The Frankfurt data center will become the primary location for serving new clients based in the EU beginning in July 2021, with the Amsterdam data center serving only as a backup. If they so want, existing clients in the EU will be able to transfer all of their data to a facility in Frankfurt that specializes in such operations.
You have until the third day before the migration that is planned to take place if you want to cancel your participation in the migration. Through the Control Hub, you may find out when that date is and choose to opt out. In the event that you change your mind about moving to the Frankfurt data center at a later date, you will have another opportunity to do so during the subsequent round of migrations, which is anticipated to begin in early 2022.
Eligibility for EU migration
The following criteria are used to decide, for current clients, whether or not it is possible to move your organization’s data to the data center located in Frankfurt.
Region selection for the organization
If the Control Hub organization was initially set up in any of the following nations or areas, then the data will be transferred to the data center in Frankfurt without any intervention from the user:
A-F |
G-L |
M-Z |
---|---|---|
|
|
|
Time zone selection for the Webex Meetings site
You have the option to transfer the Webex Meetings site to the data center in Frankfurt if it was initially deployed in one of the following time zones:
-
GMT 00:00—Dublin
-
GMT 00:00—Lisbon
-
GMT 00:00—Canary Islands
Impacts on Webex services during migration
The transfer of Webex sites that have opted in for the process takes place during the regularly scheduled maintenance windows for Webex sites. The transfer won’t result in any significant service interruptions, however the following are some of the implications that may be experienced by your company as a result of using Webex.
Webex Meetings
- When trying to host or attend meetings that are planned during the window in which the site will be undergoing maintenance, both hosts and participants may run into some difficulties.
- Participants may be kicked out of meetings that are being held while the maintenance window for the website is active, and they won’t be able to rejoin the meeting unless the host resumes it themselves.
- After the transfer, the information pertaining to one-time and recurring meetings that were planned over a year and a half ago will no longer be accessible.
- After the conversion has been completed, you will no longer have access to historical reports for Webex Events (classic) or Webex Support. If you want to save any required reports after the migration, make sure to save them before it happens. The following reports are affected:
-
-
-
Registration Report
-
Attendance Report
-
In-Event Activity Report
-
Event Recording Report
-
Attendee History Report
-
CSR Activity
-
-
After the migration has been completed, if you discover that you have not saved any of these reports, you can submit a service request to Cisco support in order to get them sent to you.
After the conversion, information regarding Recent Personal Rooms will no longer be accessible through the Webex website or through the Webex Meetings desktop application. After the migration is complete, it will no longer be possible to restore this data in any way.
If your company makes use of Webex Edge Audio, then the configurations will remain the same once the transfer process is complete. However, the Lua script that is used in CUCM has to be changed so that it can select the most efficient media path possible. To accomplish this:
- Create a new Lua script and export it from Control Hub for the site that was transferred.
- In the Unified CM Administration interface, generate a SIP Normalization Script using the newly added Lua script.
- Replace the current SIP Normalization Script with the one you developed in step 2, which should be done as soon as possible.
- Ensure that the SIP trunk is saved, then reset it.
