Overview
If you are under sixteen years of age, then zoom will allow you to securely join the zoom meeting without even opening a zoom account. The process of k-12 school is safe in the sense that zoom excludes the unauthorized access of users who are outside the preview of schools. While applying the zoom external authentication, it’s alright if the students are not part of the zoom account. Only the school’s email addresses suffice.

Requirements for the k-12 authentication.
To avail of the student login feature, you at least have to have a zoom business, pro, enterprise, education account. You must have either the zoom account admin or owner discretion. For the zoom mobile app, the minimum version required is android 5.0.0 or higher for both android and iOS.
For the desktop, the minimum version required is 5.0.0 or higher.
How to configure the external authentication?
Once you have set the SAML configuration to the identity provider, through this process add the new authentication of the zoom account.
Step 1. First, sign in to the Zoom web portal as an admin. It is so because it gives you the privilege of account settings editing.
Step 2. Then tap on account management after going to the navigation panel. From there go to account settings.
Step 3. Below the section scheduled meeting, go below and tap on unauthenticated users to join meetings.
Step 4. Following that go to meeting authentication options. And then tap on +add configuration.
Step 5. Input on meeting authentication option.
Step 6. Choose the authentication method and from there select sign in to external SSO.
Step 7. Once done tap on save.
Try users have the discretion of the authentication profile for scheduling zoom meetings once the only authenticated users can join are verified.
Step 8. This step is optional. If you want then you can toggle to enable only authenticated users to join meetings. It will be applicable by default to all users of the zoom account. In case of a verification dialog pop up then select turn on for verifying the change.
If you want then tap on the lick account present near the account or group level. But so, you can apply the above setting either for all zoom meetings or for particular meetings.

Every time a student wants to join a meeting they will securely get a notification that the meeting is for authorized attendees. In such a case, they can select sign-in to join. That will enable them to continue.
Once done, they will be navigated to a particular web browser. They can sign in via SSO by applying to the school’s sso provider. Once done, they can join the meeting with the proper email id and name.

- Is breakout zoom applicable when a particular student does not have a zoom account?
Answer – Even if the student doesn’t have a zoom account then also breaks out room work. You can also pre-assign students to a breakout room by uploading a CSV file with proper details.
- Can a teacher or guest speaker join the zoom meeting?
Answer- Anyone can only attend a meeting when he or she has an authorized account in the SSO Identity Provider. Other than that no one can join the meeting.
- In what way is this unique from SSO authentication and standard zoom?
Answer- simply, it is unique because it allows you to authenticate users for joining the zoom meeting instead of creating an account.
- Is using the same SSO configuration for the zoom account possible?
Answer- No it’s not possible. A separate SAML application of the identity provider is required.
- Can I have proper attendance report information?
Answer- Yes because students’ names with email addresses are enlisted in the meeting.
- Can I control students’ change of name?
Answer – Yes, you can control students changing their names by turning off the option to allow participants to rename themselves at the account, user, or group level. If the student changes their name then the fresh name will appear in the attendance list.
- Do participants need to have a proper zoom account?
Answer No, participants don’t need to have a zoom account for this.
