Factory Reset | Secure Data Wipe in webex
Some Webex Boards, Rooms, or Desk devices might need to be reset to their default factory settings in certain situations, in order to ensure that they perform as expected. There are times, for example, when a device needs to be reset to factory settings if there is a severe problem with it. Furthermore, if you wish to completely erase all the data from your device, you can perform a factory reset.
Linux Unified Key Setup (LUKS) is the standard for Linux hard disk encryption and is used on Webex Boards, Rooms and Desks, which is the format that is used to encrypt the file system on those devices. Either NVRAM or NOR-Flash is used to store the file system encryption key, which is used to encrypt the file system. As a result of a factory reset, any data on the disk is rendered unreadable due to an overwritten key that cannot be recovered. Using a factory reset allows you to delete data securely in a manner that complies with the US Department of Defense 5220.22M standard.
The following steps should be followed during a factory reset:
-
There is a deletion of the call logs
-
The passwords have been reset to their default values
-
There is a reset of all the parameters of the device to their default settings
-
In order to remove all the files that have been uploaded to the device, the device must be reset.
-
It is deleted the previous image of the software (which was inactive)
-
There is no effect on the option keys
Factory resets cannot be undone once they have been performed. If you plan on doing this, make sure you’re doing so for the right reasons before you begin.
The easiest way to perform a factory reset of a device is to use the web interface or the user interface provided by the device. Log files, configurations, and custom elements on your device should be backed up before you perform a factory reset; otherwise, all the data on your device will be lost. Please refer to the Administration Guide for information about the different ways in which you can back up and reset your device.
