Finding and viewing local recordings in zoom App
You can access your local recordings on the computer on which the meeting was recorded if you recorded it locally.
Note:
The Zoom web portal lets you manage cloud recordings if you recorded a meeting or webinar to the cloud.

Prerequisites for accessing local recordings
- Recordings of previous meetings
- Meetings/webinars must be recorded with the following settings in order to appear in the web portal:
- Version 4.0.25513.0228 or higher of Zoom desktop client for Windows
- Zoom client for macOS, version 4.0.25513.0228 or later
How to find the default location for local recording files
The following directory will be used by default for local recordings:
- Windows: C:\Users\[Username]\Documents\Zoom
- Mac: /Users/[Username]/Documents/Zoom
- Linux: home/[Username]/Documents/Zoom
How to access and convert local recording files with the desktop client
Note:
By double-clicking Zoom files, you cannot convert local recording files in versions 4.6.10 or higher. Click here for instructions on how to convert the files. See our troubleshooting suggestions if you’re having trouble converting a local recording.
- Click the Meetings tab in the Zoom desktop client.
- Using the Recorded tab, select the local recording of the meeting.
Notes:- You can open, play, and delete local recordings by clicking on the file path.
- It means the recording is a cloud recording if you only see the Open option.
- A local recording that has not yet been converted to a video file can be converted by clicking Convert to display the options below.
- Managing local recordings is as simple as clicking one of the options below:
- Open:
- Navigate to the folder where the recordings are stored. Depending on the type of file (video, audio, etc), the file format will be displayed in the folder.
- Play Video:
- Open your default media player to view the recorded meeting.
- Play Audio:
- Your computer’s default media player can be used to play the recorded meeting audio.
- Delete:
- You can permanently delete the recording from your computer.
- Refresh icon

- If you do not see the recording, refresh the list.
- If you want others to be able to see your recording, you can share it.
Note:
If the file cannot be opened or played, check the default recording location and ensure the files are in the correct location.
How to view or change the default file location for local recordings
Zoom client settings allow you to set the default recording location for local recordings.
- Log in to the Zoom desktop client.
- Select Settings from your profile picture.
- Select Recording.
- Select one of these options beside Local Recording:
- To open the folder where your local recordings are stored, click Open.
- Choose a new location for the local recordings by clicking Change.
How to access local recordings on the web portal
- Zoom’s web portal can be accessed by logging in.
- Select Recordings from the navigation menu.
- On the Local Recordings tab, click the Record button.
A meeting topic, meeting ID, time and date, computer name, and recording path will be displayed. - Choose from the following options:
- Open:
- Select the local recording file location. To access the file, you must open Zoom in your browser.
- Delete:
- Delete the recording. Although it will no longer appear in your web portal, it will still remain on the computer where it was recorded.
