First things to know about teams and channels in Microsoft Teams

There is nothing more important to an organization than having a team of people gathered to accomplish big tasks. There are times when your entire company is affected.
In teams, you can have conversations with others through channels, and channels are what make up the communication between your teammates. The channels are dedicated to different topics, departments, or projects, depending on the topic or department.
For instance, in the Mark 8 Project team, there are a number of groups such as Research and Development, General, Design, Digital Assets Web, Go-To-Market Plan, and Digital Assets, all of which have elaborations on their own organizational structures. It is in the Design channel that you will find all kinds of discussions and meetings related to design, and everything that you find in this channel is able to be seen by all members of the Mark 8 Project team at all times. As well as sharing files and apps with other members of your team, you can also collaborate on projects.
There are channels where the actual work takes place-where text, audio, and video conversations that are open to the whole team take place, where files are shared, where apps are added.
A channel is a public forum for discussing things, but a chat is a private conversation between you and another user (or a group of people). Taking the case of Skype for Business as an example, you can think of them as emails or instant messages that have been sent using the app.
The ability to switch between chats and channels is an important feature for users who are working offline, or are on a low-bandwidth network. As bandwidth allows, we will trickle in messages as they arrive in order so that you are always able to see every message that has been sent since we last synced to your network.
Note: If you are a global administrator, please consider creating a team that will automatically add all members of your organization to the team, which will enable you to customize your team to fit your own organization.

It is important to note that the Mark 8 Project team has various channels running throughout the organizational structure, for instance, General, Design, Digital Assets Web, Go to Market Plan, and Research and Development. In the Design channel, there are all conversations, meetings, files, and apps regarding design, so everything in this channel is made visible to everyone involved in the Mark 8 Project team, and everything in this channel is connected to design.
This is where the work actually happens – this is where text, audio, and video conversations open to everyone on the team take place, where files are shared, and where apps are added.
Channels are public discussions, whereas chats are private discussions between two people, since the conversations taken place there are between the two of you (or a group of people). The instant message is a message that you can send through apps that allow you to communicate with one another, for example Skype for Business.
Note: Creating an organization-wide team is a great option if you’re a global administrator and want to automatically add everyone within your organization.
