Getting started with iOS For Zoom App
Overview
An overview of iOS features is provided in this article. Zoom Cloud Meetings app for iOS lets you join meetings, schedule meetings, chat with contacts, and view a contact directory.
Note:
There may be limitations related to licenses or add-ons that prevent access to certain features. Detailed information about prerequisites and configuration can be found in the features-specific articles.

Prerequisites
- Zoom Cloud Meetings app (available on the App Store)
Sign in and Join
Join a meeting without signing in by clicking Join a Meeting after launching Zoom. You can log in to schedule a meeting or start one at your convenience by tapping Sign In.
Sign in with your Zoom, Google, or Facebook account. SSO is also available. Tap Sign Up to create a new account. You can forget your Zoom password by tapping Forgot Password if you have a Zoom account.
Meet & Chat
Tap Meet & Chat once you’ve signed in to access these meeting features:
- New Meeting :
- Use your PMI or a new meeting ID to start an instant meeting. Discover in-meeting controls for hosts.
- Join :
- Use the meeting ID to join the meeting. Find out how attendees can control the meeting.
- Schedule :
- Make a meeting recurring or one-time.
- Share Screen :
- You can share your device screen with a Zoom Room by entering a sharing key or meeting ID.
- Call a Room :
- Open a meeting with a SIP or H.323 device. You need an additional add-on for the account and the IP address or URI of the H.323/SIP device.
- Starred:
- Start a conversation with a contact or channel you have starred.
- Use your own personal chat space.
- Additional contacts and channels will appear.
Additionally, you can access the following features:
- Pairing icon for Zoom Room:
- Connect with a Zoom Room nearby to control the meeting from your mobile app instead of using the Zoom Room controller.
- Compose icon :
- Start a new one-on-one conversation.
Phone
Zoom Phone features can be accessed by tapping Phone.
License required for Zoom Phone.
- Keypad icon Dial a number or contact using your direct phone number or company number.
- History tab:
- See what calls you have made, missed, or recorded.
- Voicemail tab:
- Listen to and delete voicemail messages.
- Lines tab:
- View the lines you have access to.
- SMS tab:
- See any SMS messages you’ve sent or received.
- Compose icon :
- Start a new SMS message.
Meetings
- Start:
- Use your PMI or a meeting that you have scheduled to start an instant meeting
- Send Invitation:
- If you want to invite others to your PMI, you can text them, email them, or copy the meeting details and paste them into a calendar invite.
- Edit:
- Make sure your PMI is set up correctly.
- The meeting can be viewed, edited, started, joined or deleted by tapping it.
Note:
Meetings you are the host of can only be edited, started or deleted by you.
Contacts
You can add new contacts by tapping Contacts.
- Contacts tab:
- Select a contact to see your options, such as starting a one-on-one chat with them, starting a meeting or phone call, and viewing their status.
- Channels tab:
- Access your group messaging channels (group chats). Starred channels are displayed at the top of the list.
- Apps tab:
- You can view a list of the apps you’ve connected, typically in the form of automated chatbots.
- Plus icon :
- Show contact and channel options. You can add contacts, create contact groups, join channels, or install apps from our Marketplace.
Settings
View meeting and chat settings by tapping Settings.
- You can change your profile picture, name, and password by tapping your name.
- Meeting:
- Changing meeting settings, such as enabling/disabling your microphone, mirroring video, and so on.
- Contacts:
- Look up phone contacts who are currently using Zoom.
- role management permission to Zoom Chat:
- Changes chat settings such as notifications, unread message order, and others.
- Phone (visible only if you have Zoom Phone):
- Manage your call queues, shared line groups, and more.
- General:
- Modify general settings, such as ringtones.
- Siri Shortcuts:
- Using Siri, set up voice commands for Zoom.
- About:
- View the app version and provide feedback.

Permissions requested by the Zoom mobile app
The Zoom mobile app may ask you for access to the following permissions with a pop-up, depending on what features you are using. By going to Settings, scrolling down and selecting Zoom on your device, you can enable these options before you begin filming or at your discretion. Zoom requests the following permissions:
- Location:
- Gives Zoom access to your location so it can generate an Emergency Response Location when you dial emergency services from Zoom.
- Contacts:
- Used for matching phone contacts (not available for iPads or iPadOS).
- Calendars:
- When a Zoom meeting is scheduled, the Calendar app can automatically add the meeting as an event.
- Photos:
- Allows Zoom to access your local photo albums, add images to chat messages, or share your screen during a webinar or meeting.
- Microphone:
- Joining a webinar or meeting using the built-in microphone.
- Camera:
- Sharing your video during a meeting or webinar.
- Siri & Search:
- Adds the ability to add Siri shortcuts such as Join the Next Meeting, View Today’s Meetings, and Start My Personal Meeting.
- Notifications:
- Displays notifications for chat messages, upcoming meetings, and more.
- Background App Refresh:
- Allows notification of Meeting invites when the app is closed and not running.
- Local network:
- This is requested when joining a Peer-to-Peer meeting, connecting Zoom Phone to a local Zoom Room, or pairing your mobile device with the Zoom Room.
