Getting started with Outlook plugin and add-in in zoom App
Zoom offers two types of Outlook integration: the Zoom Outlook plugin and the Zoom add-in. Customers can add Zoom meetings to their Outlook calendar events using both integrations. In Microsoft Office AppSource, the plugin is an application installation, while the add-in is a native integration.
The migration of your users to Zoom’s Outlook add-in is highly recommended in order to ensure our users get the best experience while adhering to policies and guidelines set by Apple and Microsoft. In addition to providing a more robust admin management solution, Microsoft actively supports this add-in, which is compatible with the recently enhanced security requirements of vendors such as Apple.
Microsoft has announced the removal of injection-based native plugin support from Outlook for Mac. Zoom will also stop developing and supporting the Mac Outlook plugin at this time. This timeline was originally set for June 2020, but Microsoft and Apple are still working on blocking certain plugins. In light of this, it is still recommended that organizations migrate their users from the plugin to the Zoom Outlook add-in.
Zoom will support the Outlook plugin for Windows OS (including enhancements, technical support, and bug fixes). For an easier deployment process and a standard user experience, we recommend consolidating to the add-in.
Given this context, we recommend the following deployments:
- Zoom Outlook add-in for Office 365 – Mac and Windows environment.
- Office 365 – Windows only: Use Zoom Outlook add-in since it provides a better user experience and simplifies administration. Zoom Outlook plugins will still work, however.
- Office on Premises – Mac and Windows: Deploy the add-in if you are using Exchange 2016 or 2019. Use On Premise Office Mojave or earlier if using an older version, as Mac OS Catalina does not support plugins.
- On Premise Office – Windows only: If you’re using Exchange 2016 or 2019, install the add-in. Alternatively, deploy the plugin if you are using an older version.
It is recommended that you begin to migrate to Zoom’s Outlook add-in. Learn more about the Zoom Outlook add-in experience. If you have any questions on the migration, please submit a request to Zoom Support.
