Hosting a Personal Audio Conference meeting in zoom App

In the Personal Audio Conference (PAC), meeting IDs are predetermined, static numbers of 10 or 11 digits that participants can share at any time. Additionally, you can configure PAC settings such as adding dial-in numbers and passwords.

Prerequisites for hosting a Personal Audio Conference (PAC) meeting

  • Accounts with an audio conferencing plan can be Pro, Business, or Education

How to schedule a Personal Audio Conference

Zoom’s desktop client, mobile app, and web portal allow you to schedule PACs if you want them to appear on your upcoming meetings.

  1. Log in to Zoom’s web portal.
  2. Click Meetings from the navigation menu.
  3. In the top-right corner of the screen, click the ellipsis icon. Next, click Schedule a personal conference.
  4. Then, fill in the details needed, if necessary, and click Schedule a meeting.
  5. There is also the option of configuring your PAC settings such as dial-in numbers and passcodes.

The second option is to start a PAC without scheduling and then copy the invitation to the participants.

How to copy the invitation for participants

Copy the auto-generated invitation and send it to conference participants via email, include it in a calendar invitation, or share it elsewhere. You will also be able to copy the invitation for listen-only participants if you have set a listen-only password.

  1. Log in to the Zoom web portal.
  2. Click the Personal Audio Conference link in the navigation menu.
  3. Select Copy Invitation For Participants from the drop-down menu. You can also choose to copy the invitation for attendees who are only able to listen-only if you added a listen-only passcode.
  4. Once you have selected all, the invitation will be copied.
  5. You can copy by right-clicking, or by pressing Ctrl+C (Windows or Linux) / Cmd+C (Mac OS).
  6. Simply paste the invitation in the place where you want it to appear.


Users who are not authenticated can join meetings by dialing in or using the call me option if the option to only allow authenticated users to join meetings has been disabled.

How to start the PAC as a host

PAC meetings can be initiated by phone or through the Zoom web portal. When the host joins and enters the Host Key, the PAC meeting will begin.


  1. Call the Zoom Global dial-in number set up for your account to connect to your Zoom Global account.
  2. When prompted, enter the meeting ID of the PAC meeting followed by the number.
  3. The host key should be entered when prompted, followed by a number.

Host controls through DTMF tones

In the event that the meeting has been started by entering the host key, you will be able to take control of the meeting by entering DTMF tones on your dial pad to control the meeting. In the following list of commands you will be able to enter:

DTMF command: **

When the host presses **, the audio prompt will only be heard by the host. When the host presses **, the feature menu will appear, which will give the following response:

  • I would like to end this meeting with the following vote:
  • *5 to lock the meeting or unlock it
  • and *6 to either mute or unmute yourself
  • as well as *7 to start and stop the recording of the meeting
  • and *99 for muting or unmuting all participants

When the participant presses **, the audio prompt will only be heard by the participant. Upon reaching the feature menu, the participant will be given the following response.

  • In order to toggle yourself into muted or unmuted mode, use *6

DTMF command: *7

When the host selects *7, the following message will be heard:

  • In order to record, you need to enable the recording capability
  • The recording failed to start, please contact our support
  • The recording failed to stop, please contact our support
  • The meeting is now being recorded
  • The recording is now being stopped

If the host selects *7, all participants will hear the following

  • The meeting is now being recorded
  • The recording is now being stopped

DTMF command: *5

When the host selects *5, the host will hear the following

  • The meeting is now being locked
  • The meeting is now being unlocked

DTMF command: *#

When the host selects *#, they will notified there are x number of participants in the meeting

DTMF command: 99

When the host selects 99, they will be notified that all participants are muted/unmuted.


  1. Zoom’s web portal can be accessed by signing in.
  2. Click Personal Audio Conference under the navigation menu.
  3. The conference will begin.
    Your browser will open the PAC controls. You will be able to join the meeting by calling in, or you can call me if you have call out enabled.
  4. Using this option, you can join the conference by phone:
    • Click Join by phone and follow the instructions:
      • Call the number listed.
      • When prompted, enter the conference ID followed by #.
      • Enter the host key followed by #.
    • You can then enter the phone number you want Zoom to call by selecting your country/region code under Call Me. Once the conference call is answered, you can join the conference.
  5. On your browser’s bottom, you’ll see options to control the host:
    • Mute/Unmute:
    • Turn your phone off or on. During a conference, you can also mute/unmute by dialing *6. DTMF commands can only be accessed through the web portal.
    • Invite:
    • Share your link with others.
    • Mute All:
    • Turn off all users.
    • Record:
    • Zoom will record the meeting if it is enabled.
    • Lock:
    • Disallow new participants from joining the meeting.
