How do I host an instant meeting in zoom app?

In order to host an instant video meeting with Zoom, you should first create an account with that service and download and install the Zoom application. An instant meeting is a meeting that can be started immediately without having to schedule or invite participants in advance. A group meeting can be started at any time and anyone can be invited to join at any time. In order to receive invitations to the meeting, you must use the control bar on the screen of your computer to send them.

Note: The instant meeting ID that is generated from the Zoom desktop client or Zoom mobile app will expire after the meeting has ended as soon as it has been started. Scheduled meeting IDs that were generated through the API are set to expire within 24 – 48 hours following the appointment.

Prerequisites for hosting an instant meeting

  • A desktop version of Zoom is available

    • Windows: 5.0.0 or higher

    • macOS: 5.0.0 or higher

    • Linux: 5.0.0 or higher

  • Zoom mobile app

    • Android: 5.0.0 or higher

    • iOS: 5.0.0 or higher

How to host an instant meeting through Zoom desktop client

Windows | macOS | Linux

Note: You will need to access the Zoom homepage, select Host a Meeting from the menu on the top of the page, then click Install Zoom to begin the installation process.

Home tab

A Zoom desktop client instant meeting can be started using the Home tab by clicking on the following:

  1. Open the Zoom client on your desktop and sign in.

  2. Go to the Home tab by clicking on it.

  3. (Optional) You can choose from the following options for instant meetings by clicking the down arrow:

    • Let’s begin with a video: With video enabled, your instant meeting will begin as soon as this button is pressed.

    • My Personal Meeting ID can be found here: By using your Personal Meeting ID (PMI), you can access your personal meeting room, which is a virtual meeting room that is permanently reserved for you and that you have access to only.

  4. If you would like to start a meeting right now, click New Meeting.
    The meeting is not by default open to anyone, so be sure to invite others to attend by inviting them to the meeting.

Team Chat

During a chat conversation with a contact or channel, the following steps may be taken to start an instant meeting:

  1. Zoom’s desktop client can be accessed by signing in with your Zoom account.

  2. There is a tab called Team Chat that you can click on.

  3. Open a chat by selecting either the contact name or the channel name.

  4. You can select the Meet with video option by clicking the down arrow next to the video camera button.

  5. It is possible to start a video meeting by clicking the video camera button.
    Everyone in the group chat or channel that is a part of this instant meeting will be invited to join the meeting.

How to host an instant meeting through Zoom mobile app

Home tab

On the Home tab of the Zoom mobile app, you will find the following options for starting an instant meeting:

  1. Open the Zoom app on your mobile device and sign in.

  2. Click the Home tab at the top of the screen.

  3. You can start an instant meeting by tapping the New Meeting button.
    There is no one invited by default to the meeting, so you should make sure you invite others to join the meeting as well.

Chat tab for the team

During a chat conversation with a contact or channel, the following steps may be taken to start an instant meeting:

  1. The Zoom mobile app requires you to sign in before you can access it.

  2. You can choose 1:1 chat, group chat, or a channel on the Team Chat tab.

  3. To begin an instant meeting, you need to tap the video camera button on the screen.
    Members of all group chats or channels will be invited to this instant meeting.

As long as the host scheduled the meeting with certain settings, you can start or join a Zoom meeting without him or her present. In order for participants to be able to join before the host, the waiting room feature must be disabled before the meeting can be scheduled.
