How do I know that an email is really from Skype?
Emails claiming to be from Skype should not be responded to, clicked on, or opened if they do not appear genuine.
Genuine Skype emails usually come from the following email addresses:
@emails.skype.com
@email.skype.com
@skype.delivery.net
@notifications.skype.com
@alerts.skype.com
@skype.net
@css.one.microsoft.com
You should be wary of emails that come from addresses other than those. The message should still be viewed with caution, even if it comes from one of those addresses.
Emails that ask for sensitive information, such as Skype passwords or payment details, may be fraudulent. Your order may be delivered or refused, or that your Skype needs to be upgraded or reinstalled. Subject lines used in previous fraudulent emails include:
-
There is a new version of Skype available
-
Get the latest version of Skype! Talk for free more often
-
Skype’s Newest Version Has Been Released! Now is the time to upgrade
-
The Skype account you are using has been limited!
-
New Releases : For Windows and Mac, you can download Skype 2011
Emails of this type are referred to as “spoofs” or “phishing”. These emails are sent by people who wish to get your personal information from you, or have you click on a link in the email to go to a fraudulent website, or open an attachment that might install malware. Please contact Skype support if you receive such an email.
In response to your inquiry with Skype Customer Service, we may request additional account or billing information. It’s normal to experience this. Passwords will never be requested from you.
You will never receive an instant messaging message from us asking for your personal details or persuading you to download anything, unless you have already contacted us. Immediately block anyone posing as a Skype representative and report them for abuse if they contact you.
Whenever you are asked to provide sensitive personal information via email, please be extremely cautious.
