On May 1st, this feature will become fully available, and at the moment, it is in preview.
If the meeting organizer allows anonymous people to present content in live meetings, the anonymous person can present the content in the meeting. Using Teams on a desktop or an iPad device, the anonymous presenters can join the meeting and participate anonymously.
To allow anonymous presenters
- You can enable external presenters by selecting the Allow external presenters toggle during the scheduling process.
[su_note note_color=”#ffddf1″] Note: You can turn on this option once the event is scheduled by selecting the Edit button on the event in your calendar.[/su_note]
- After you send the invitation, send the presenter join information to the anonymous presenters. The presenter join information is located at the bottom of the page of your event in your calendar. You can copy it under Microsoft Teams.
- Those without an Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) identity who select the Join link at the start of the meeting will enter the meeting lobby. The meeting must be opened to them.

Notes:
- Azure AD identities are Microsoft email addresses provided by a company to someone, or they can be used by a person who has an Azure AD account.
- When invited into the meeting, users with Azure AD Identity, but not part of your tenant, will be able to enter the meeting directly if they have an Azure AD Identity. However, to speak and share content, they still have to be given the presenter role.
- If there are internal people joining your meeting who did not explicitly add themselves as presenters, but who are using the presenter join link for the meeting and were not explicitly added as presenters, they will automatically become presenters when you let them in.
- Share the internal link only with those who are going to present externally, do not share it with anyone else. Users whose identities do not exist on their tenant (such as those with a @microsoft.com email address) are considered external presenters.
- Unless you are reasonably certain that the user is your external presenter, do not allow them to enter the meeting room from the lobby.
- It is possible that users will end up in the lobby of the live event if the attendee link is malformed or does not contain the proper parameters.
[/su_note]
- Change the anonymous presenters’ role manually during the meeting:
A. View a list of all participants in your meeting by selecting Show participants. - B. You can change someone’s role by selecting More options > Make a presenter next to their name.
An anonymous presenter can, once promoted to presenter, do the following:
- Video and audio files should be shared.
- Content should be shared.
- You can view the chat room for the presenters.
They cannot:
- Q&A from the meeting can be accessed here.
- The meeting should be closed to others.
[su_note note_color=”#ffddf1″] Note: For now, external presenters can only listen when Allow external presenters is enabled. The functionality will be available soon, so stay tuned![/su_note]
For anonymous presenters on an iPad
- You can join as a presenter by clicking the Join link.
