How to Cast content from a mobile device to a Microsoft Teams Room

In order to share content on a larger screen with colleagues, you can go to a Teams Room from your mobile device to view it on a bigger screen. With this feature, you will be able to project the content from your device directly onto the overhead screen and you will not be required to schedule a meeting in advance in order to do this.

Before you begin

  • In order to use Teams, you must first install the mobile app on your mobile device and then connect to the internet via Bluetooth.
  • Hence, both the Teams Rooms device and the mobile device must have direct internet access in order to work effectively.
  • There must be a minimum distance of 10 meters (32.8 feet) between the mobile device and the device in the room.

Cast your mobile device screen

Caution: In addition to your device’s screen, the projected screen will also show all notifications that appear on your device’s screen. Using the Do Not Disturb setting on your device may be the best way to share your screen without disturbing others.

You can access Cast from Teams’ navigation bar by clicking the Cast icon.

  1. You can access the Cast app by tapping More if you don’t see it in Teams when you open it once you have opened it.

    A list of nearby Teams Rooms will be displayed once the app has searched for them and found them. Alternatively, you can move closer to the Team Rooms device if you are not able to see it.

  2. Select a Teams Room from the list of available Teams Rooms.

    There will be a connection between the app and the room.

  3. If you wish to share all of the information displayed on your screen, you can tap Project my screen.

  4. It is important to note that Microsoft Teams is only available for iOS devices.

  5. On the same screen, tap the Start Broadcast button.

Note: In any case, if you decide to cast while you are in a call, meeting, or switching to a different Team account, then you will not be able to do anything.

Stop projecting

  1. In the top right corner of the screen, you will see a pill icon.

  2. Then tap the Stop button.

From a personal device, you can share either with in-room participants or with online participants by using one of two methods:

Using a broadcast, you can present the mobile screen of your device to everyone participating in a video meeting:

Using Microsoft Teams on iOS and Android, you can share your screen with others.
  1. At the bottom of your screen, there will be three dots displayed. Simply tap the three dots and then select ‘Share’.
  2. The next step is to tap the ‘Share screen’ button.
  3. Upon clicking the ‘start broadcast’ button, a broadcast will begin.
  4. As long as you do not switch to the app you wish to share with your viewers, the viewers will see the Teams app instead.
Here are the steps you need to take in order to share your screen on an iPhone X or later
  1. In order to access the Control Center, you need to swipe your finger down from the top right corner of your screen.
  2. The option to record your screen should be pressed and held down.
  3. By selecting Microsoft Teams, you will be able to start a live broadcast.
