How to Change your video background in Microsoft Teams

In order to change what appears behind you in your video meeting or call, you have the option to either blur your background or replace it with an image of your choice. You can also use Teams’ configurable virtual background templates in order to change what appears behind you in your video call or meeting.

Change your background before a meeting starts

1. The first thing you should do before connecting to a meeting is select Background filters while you are setting up your video and audio. The button is located just beneath the image of the video.In the right hand corner of the screen, you will see a list of background options.
2. If you would like to blur the background of your image, select Blur. Despite everything behind you being subtly concealed behind you, you will appear to be extremely clear and sharp.Additionally, you can also choose to have your own image used as the background instead of using an image that was provided for you to use, or you can choose to use one of the images that was provided for you to use instead. Using your own image is as simple as selecting Add new and selecting a picture from your computer to upload into the window. It is important to make sure that the file you upload is a .JPG, .PNG, or .BMP file.

It doesn’t matter which background you choose for your meeting or call in the future, your new background will be visible until you change it again in your next meeting or call.

The background effects can be turned off by selecting the option.

1. Select More actions Apply background effects from the meeting controls at the bottom of the screen.
2. To blur the background, you will need to select the Blur option in order to make it blurry. In addition, if you wish, you could also replace it with one of the available images from the gallery. Click on the Add new menu item, and then select Get started. You have the option of uploading a personal picture from your computer, such as a .JPG, .PNG, or .BMP.
   The background effects can be turned off by selecting the option.
3. Before you apply the background you have chosen, it is a good idea to preview it so that you can determine how it will appear to you, and then select Apply when you are ready to apply it.
