How to Create a team from an existing team in Microsoft Teams
A new team can be made by copying an existing team and then adding a number of the same data, channels, and settings to it when you want to use the same data, settings, and channels in your new team as well. In order to create your new team, you will need to copy the data, options, and channels from the original team to the new one.
- On the left side of the App, you will find a section called Teams, and at the bottom of the list, you will find a button that lets you either join an existing team or create a new one.
- If you hover over the card for Create team, you will have the option to select Create team.
- Select a team or group from the drop down menu and then select Team from the list. Your current teams will appear as a list on the right hand side.
- If you wish to copy an existing team, make sure that it is the team that you want to copy.
- As part of adding a new team to your organization, you will need to name it, describe it, edit its privacy settings, and, if your organization has done so already, change the team’s data classification settings.It is up to you to select which checkboxes you wish to copy, depending on which parts of the team you wish to copy. If you choose to copy those parts, you will be able to select which parts of the team you wish to copy, and you can copy them by selecting which ones you wish to use: channels, tabs, settings, apps, or even specific members.
- After you have completed the form, click on Create once you have finished.
