In order to join a private team, you must be added to the team by the team owner.
In the team gallery, you have the option to join public teams and the members of those teams will be able to view them without the need to ask for permission from the team owner.
Change a team’s privacy status
By selecting More options Edit team when your team’s privacy settings are set to private (or vice versa), you will be able to make any changes to your team by clicking at the bottom of the menu under the team name in the left sidebar. Upon reaching the bottom of the page, please make sure that you scroll down to the bottom of the window to confirm your changes. You can select either the Public or the Private option under the Privacy tab.
