It is easy and quick to pop out a separate window when you are working one-on-one or in a group chat. Then, you can adjust the window’s size, position, or close it if you wish to do so. While in a meeting or on a call, it’s a good idea to use your phone to get more done. You can pop out multiple conversations at the same time, but you cannot pop out the same conversation twice at the same time.
Tip: There are many more things you can do with the main app (such as scheduling meetings, attaching a OneDrive File, adding apps, etc.). Return to the main app to find these features that are familiar to you. The pop-out chat window does not need to be closed in order to continue the conversation.
Note: For the time being, the Pop Out Chat feature is only available for Windows and Mac, and only available in the desktop app for Windows. As of now, Teams on the web, on Linux, and on mobile devices are not supported.
A chat can be popped out in Teams in a few different ways. Several methods can be used:
From the chat list
You can open the chat list by selecting Chat on the left side of Teams.
Find the chat that you are looking for.
You can open a pop-out chat by selecting More options > Open a pop-out chat. You can also open a new chat window by double-clicking the chat name.
By hovering over a chat
A pop-up chat icon will appear when you hover over a chat in a conversation. It will open a new pop-out window where you can chat with your friends.
From the chat itself
Click on the pop-out chat option in the upper-right corner of the chat window.
From a profile picture
In order to start a conversation with someone, you have to double-click their profile picture in order to open up a new tab.
From the command box
You can enter /pop into the command box that appears at the top of Teams. It is important to choose the chat that you would like to pop out of.
In the Teams meeting tool bar, you will see an icon called Pop out that will allow you to expand your screen(s) to give you more space to view the shared content. The shared content will appear in a new window once you click or tap the Pop out icon.
How do I make my team messages pop up on my screen?
Get notified in the app and on desktop
When you turn the toggle for Show message preview on, you will be able to choose whether or not a message preview should be shown on desktop. You will see notifications banners at the bottom right of your screen when you are using Windows. As a matter of fact, they are displayed in the top right corner of Mac OS X.
How do I turn off pop out chat in Microsoft Teams?
Click on the Notifications tab in the Teams Settings menu. Click Edit next to the Chat category and select “Only show in feed” for that particular category under Notifications. You should now be able to disable the popup for your chats on your desktop by doing this.
Can I pop out a Teams Channel?
