How to Reply to a specific message in chat in Microsoft Teams
Desktop
Messages can be replied to easily in your chat. When people read your reply, they will have useful context. Many replies can be exchanged in chats. Chats in one-on-ones, groups, and meetings become more clear when you reply to a specific message.
- To open the chat list, select Chat on the left side of Teams.
- Go to the message you wish to reply to in the chat you want.
- Click More options > Reply after hovering over the message.
- In the compose box, you will see the message you selected. Then select Send to send your reply.
Reply to multiple messages at once
- Choose More options > Reply from the menu when hovering over a message.
- If you want to reply to more than one message, repeat step one.
- In the compose box, you will see the messages you selected. Select Send and type your reply.
How to find the original message
Chat makes it easy to find the original message when you see a reply. Teams will scroll up to the location of the message when you select the message preview in the compose box or in the chat.
Mobile

- In Teams, select Chat. You can then reply to the message you want.
- Select Reply by holding down the message.
- There will be a compose box where you can type your message. Then click Send to send your reply.
