Use the Search bar in Microsoft Teams to find someone or a file.

Search for people
- You can find someone by using the Search bar at the top of Teams.
- Enter the name of the person.
- Press Enter to see more search results, or choose a suggested name.
- Select a person, or click More people to view more results.
- View more contact cards for the person you are searching for on the People tab.
- If you select a person, you will be taken directly to the person’s chat room.
Search for files
- It is possible to find a file using the Search bar.
- Press the Enter key after you have typed in the file keywords.
- You can choose either a file result or View more files to see more file results. The Files tab can also be selected to view more files.
- Filter files according to the following criteria:
- Team – A channel or team can be selected to show the files associated with it.
- File Type – You can filter files based on the type of file they are if you wish.
- Modified by – The purpose of this feature is to display files that were edited by a particular individual.
- Date – In order to filter files based on the date they were created.
- Choose the option to clear all file filters in order to reset them.
- If you would like to learn more about a file result, simply click on it to expand it.
- By selecting Open file in a browser, you will be able to view the file in a web browser and open it.
