How to Send an emoji, GIF, or sticker in Teams
Desktop
You can add some fun and expression to your communications with emoji, animated GIFs, and stickers! There are now over 1800 emoji available, including some that can be personalized, as well as new emoji galleries.
Send an emoji
Emojis can be inserted into a chat or channel message using the following method:
- Below the message box, click Emoji.
- Choose one of the new emoji galleries from the pop-up window. Besides Smilies, there are also Objects, Activities, Symbols, People, Animals, Food, Travel and Places, and Hand gestures.
- Emojis can be selected from your chosen emoji gallery.
- Select Send after inserting the emoji.
Personalize your emoji
There are a number of emojis that can be customized for different skin tones, including those that include a gray dot in the corner. Using the right-click feature, you can select an emoji with a gray dot from a list of variations.
Tips:
- At the top of the gallery, you will find a keyword search box if you know the name or description of the emoji you’re looking for. Try different terms to see what works.
- It is also possible to choose emoji using keyboard shortcuts. View all available emojis to view all keyboard shortcuts.
Send a quick reaction
Give a reaction to what you just said. Choose a reaction from the full list by hovering over a message. When the message appears, you’ll see it in the upper-right corner.
Send a GIF
Simply select GIF beneath the box to send an animated GIF. Browse popular GIFs or use the search bar to find something specific (such as “cats playing piano”). Select Send after inserting the GIF.
Send a meme or sticker
Under the box, select Sticker to send a meme or sticker. You will find the most popular memes and stickers if you select Popular. You can browse different categories of stickers in Memes, or you can browse the entire meme library. When you find the photo you want, select Done, then Add captions.
Search for a meme or sticker
Select Sticker beneath the box to find a meme or sticker. In the memes and stickers collection, select the Popular option once you are inside it. There will be a search box at the top of the page where you can enter a search term (such as “Grumpy Cat” or “Office”) if you want to find memes and stickers matching that description.
Customize a meme or sticker
Under the box, select Sticker and select a meme or sticker. Select Done after entering your text in the caption boxes. It’s just a matter of selecting Send to send your new (hilarious) caption.

Emojis must first be enabled by the account administrator. In a chat or channel, just click the smiley icon just below the message tray to use an emoji. You can select your preferred emoji in the Teams emoji panel.
