How to start with Microsoft Teams displays
There are dedicated Microsoft Teams displays available with an ambient touchscreen with hands-free Cortana support and a dedicated Teams toolbar.
The Teams activity and notifications you receive, for instance, include chats, channel messages, meetings, calls, all of which are available to you at a glance without you having to switch away from your primary work screen. If you lock your display or sign out of your account, you will not be able to access your Teams collaboration options.
Sign in
Sign in using your computer or phone, if you choose to sign in using the sign in options available on the Teams screen.
See what’s happening
In addition, you will be able to track the activity on your channels, your upcoming meetings, your chats, and calls.
Whether it is joining a meeting with the click of a button from the left, or viewing your calendar, listening to voicemail, or joining a chat, you can connect with your teammates quickly and easily.
Make calls
You can access call history, speed dial contacts, and your voicemail immediately by selecting Calls from the menu. If you would like to make a phone call, you can use the dial pad.
Check your schedule
You can view the meeting schedule for the day by selecting the Calendar option. For more information about a particular meeting, please select it from the list below.
Participate in meetings
Using the calendar or a notification you receive, you can join a meeting. Take advantage of the high quality audio and video capabilities of the device to interact with your team.
Tip: When you connect your Teams display to your computer, you will be able to join meetings and participate in them at the same time on both devices.
Chat with coworkers
Messages can be viewed and responded to by selecting Chat.
Messages can be replied to using the in-built Teams keyboard that comes with the display.
Tip: Connect your computer keyboard to your computer so that you can compose messages on the keyboard instead
When using Cortana, it would be helpful to say “Cortana, chat with X” if Cortana is enabled.
Sync with your teams
You can view the information about your team channels by selecting Teams from the drop-down menu. Take advantage of the built-in keyboard on the display to respond to your questions.
Hey Cortana
The microphone in the lower-left corner of your screen will change to “Hey Cortana” if your IT admin has enabled Cortana for you.
There is a chance that Cortana may be available if you do not see the microphone. In that case, you should activate it.
Note: As of right now, users in the United States and Canada are the only countries supported by Cortana voice assistance on Teams displays.
Activate Cortana
- In the top left hand corner of the screen, select your image, then go to the Settings section.
- The side of the screen where you will select Cortana will appear and you will be able to choose your options.
a. Click on Cortana on the left hand side.
b. It is possible to launch Cortana using your voice by selecting Hey Cortana instead of selecting ,,,,, instead of typing .
c. Depending on what you are looking for, choose either Voice 1 (female voice) or Voice 2 (male voice).
Use Cortana
- It is very easy to begin using Cortana by either selecting it or saying it: “Hey Cortana”.
- Cortana will do what you tell her to do. If you want to say something like this:
- You should go home now.
- Click on the Calls tab.
- I would like to speak with Adrian King.
- The call needs to be added to Ajay’s list.
- Let Tom know what you need from him.
- I would like to invite you to my meeting.
Change the look
You can change the wallpapers on the Teams display to give it a fresh new look.
- Using the top left corner of the screen, you select your image and then choose Settings from the dropdown menu.
- Click on Wallpapers and choose which wallpaper you would like to use.
Lock the display
It is important to lock the display when you are away from your computer or when you have a visitor visiting. It is possible to do this in two different ways.
- On the top of the screen, swipe down until the bottom of the screen appears.

- Once you have selected your image, select Lock in order to lock it.
Enter your PIN in the drop-down box at the top of your display to unlock it.
Connect your Teams display to Teams Windows desktop
Using a Windows computer, you will be able to interact with your display across different devices. During the locking and unlocking process of your computer, the Teams display will automatically lock the display and unlock the display as well.
Furthermore, you will be able to simultaneously attend and participate in meetings both on the display and on the computer at the same time, as well as respond to chat messages from the display as you are reading them by typing on the computer keyboard as you are reading them in order to keep the conversation going.
Note: It is not currently possible to install Teams on Mac, Linux, web, mobile, or 32-bit/ARM-based machines.
Before you begin
- A 32-bit or 64-bit version of the Teams desktop client 1.3.00.15364 or further is required on the computer.
- Bluetooth must be enabled on the computer.
- There must be a Teams display placed close to the computer for it to function properly.
Connect the devices
- Log in with the same username and password on both your computer and display.
- Then click on the Connect a device option on the display after you have selected your picture.
- Find a device by selecting the Find a device option.
- Once the computer has been located by the display, select the Connect option.
- You will need to select Connect on your computer.
