How to use Cortana in Microsoft Teams Rooms

It is now possible to join or end a meeting in the Microsoft Teams Rooms using Cortana voice assistance without having to use any hands, adding a participant to a meeting, or even calling a number without having to leave your conference room. As part of the Cortana interface, it is possible to use either the Push to Talk option (Cortana icon) or the Word Spotting option (Hands Free) to interact with Cortana.

Invoke Cortana in Microsoft Teams Rooms

Push to talk (Cortana icon)

In order to get to Cortana, go to the bottom left hand corner of your screen and select the Cortana icon you will find in the bottom left hand corner. Once you click on the Cortana icon, Cortana will be activated and will begin listening for the keyword that you enter into the search box. It will turn on once you complete your commands, but it will only turn on once you select the Cortana icon they will turn on again once you complete your commands.

Keyword spotting (Hands free)

It is possible for users to experience hands-free browsing when keyword spotting is enabled. It is now possible to activate Cortana directly by saying the keyword “Cortana” or “Hey Cortana” rather than clicking the Cortana button on your Microsoft Surface or computer. By saying this keyword, Cortana will activate a microphone that is available for you to ask a question to her or to begin your meeting by commanding her to do so. In the event that that you are done talking and want Cortana to return to active listening mode, with Cortana not reactivated until you invoke it again by saying the keyword.

You will need to go to More on the left side of the console in order to activate voice activation in your Microsoft Teams Rooms console. Then you will just have to turn on the Cortana toggle at the bottom of the console.

Join or end a Microsoft Teams Rooms meeting 

Cortana can be used to join a Teams meeting through Microsoft Teams rooms by asking her to join the meeting by saying, “Cortana, join my meeting” through the Cortana app.

If you are done with an important meeting, you can tell Cortana to end the meeting by saying “Cortana, end the meeting.”.

Add someone to a Microsoft Teams Rooms meeting

When you want to add a contact to your meeting, you can say, “Cortana, please add Babek to my meeting.” When you want to add a number to your meeting, you can simply say, “Cortana, please add 555-222-3333 to my meeting.”

Make a call from a Microsoft Teams Rooms device 

The Microsoft Teams Rooms offer touchless calling, you can say “Cortana, call 555-222-3333.” or “Cortana, call Babek.” in order to make that call.

When you are finished with your call, you can ask Cortana to end it by saying, “Cortana, end this call.”.
