How to Use Immersive Reader in Microsoft Teams
Launch Immersive Reader from a message
- A touch screen device allows you to hover or tap over a message.
- Choose Immersive Reader from the More options menu.
A full-screen version of Immersive Reader will be available upon launch.
Launch Immersive Reader from an assignment
You can select Immersive Reader when you open an assignment as a student.
You can use Immersive Reader if you are an educator.

Immersive Reader features
Based on how you want to focus on the message or assignment text, you can do one or more of the following in Immersive Reader.
- The text highlighted in your document will be read aloud as you select Play. Unless you select a word, the narrator will start reading from that word by default. The narration can be stopped by selecting Pause.The narration speed can be changed by selecting Voice Options at the top right of the document.
- Text Options Using Text Options, you can customize your document’s appearance. The text options allow you to focus on your content and remove visual distractions.
Make sure you choose the right size, spacing, font, and theme for your learning style. Letters and words can be separated by increasing or decreasing the text size. A document’s background color is determined by the theme color you choose.
Keep the original formatting, such as bolding and underlining, by turning on Show Source Formatting.
- Parts of Speech in Grammar Options From the following list of options, choose one or more:
- Syllables Syllables are broken up into words.
- Nouns Your document will be highlighted in purple if there are nouns in it.
- Verbs Your document should be highlighted in red for verbs.
- Adjectives Your document should be highlighted in green when you use adjectives.
- Adverbs Your document will be highlighted in yellow when an adverb is used.
The labels under the highlighted parts of speech can be viewed by switching on Show labels.
- Reading Preferences
- The Line Focus feature of Immersive Reader allows readers to highlight sets of three, five, or ten lines within their selected material to narrow their focus. Activate it or deactivate it with the toggle.
- With Picture Dictionary, you can hear a word read aloud and see a picture to help you comprehend the meaning.
- Word or document translation is available through Translate.
The Immersive Reader can be exited by selecting Close.
