Join a Webex Meeting with End-to-End Encryption
As a result of Webex’s Zero-Trust Security policy, your meetings remain secure and anonymous in your scheduled and personal rooms thanks to strong identity verification and end-to-end encryption.
Attendee
If you would like to join your Webex meeting, please follow the steps in the Join a Webex Meeting article.
It is also possible for you to see the status of authentication for other participants once you have joined your meeting.
-
Webex partners with Certificate Authorities (CAs) who verify the authenticity of Webex users’ identities.
-
Webex CA has verified the identity of the user.
-
There is no verification of the identity of the person. If the host asks unverified participants to send a security code, the host will be able to authenticate them. There must be a common security code that will be seen by all participants, and the security code should change each time a new participant joins the meeting to ensure that the meeting remains secure.
When you select Meeting Info, then tap Security, you will be able to see more details about the meeting’s security.
-
Encryption is used from start to finish for the meeting.
-
There is no end-to-end encryption of the call between the Webex desktop application and the Webex server at the time of the meeting, but the connection between the two is secure.

Go to the Webex site that you are currently using and sign in.
Next to the meeting that you would like to start, click Start Meeting.
It is the host’s responsibility to keep track of the people who are waiting in the lobby, as well as to know their verification status under their names. To add a person to a meeting, click on the check box next to their name, and then click the Add button.
By clicking the link under any participant’s name during the meeting, you will be able to view the security details for that participant. The Participants list also shows you the status of authentication for each participant.

There is no verification of the identity of the person. A host can verify the authenticity of an unauthenticated participant by requesting the participant to send a security code to the host. There should be a security code that everyone in the meeting sees, and the code should continually change as new participants join the meeting to ensure that the meeting remains safe.
Please click Meeting Info and then click the Security tab to view details regarding the meeting’s security.

As far as security is concerned, your Webex app is connected securely to the Webex server, but your meeting is not encrypted end-to-end.
As a precaution, if you wish to verify the security of the end-to-end encryption connection, you will need to communicate the security code to all participants either in person or via email outside of the Webex app, which will allow the code to be validated. In the meeting, have all participants confirm that they are seeing the same code.
You may ask any participant who does not see the same code to leave the meeting and to re-join and then make sure their security code matches the current code if it does not match the current code. This code may have been updated from the one that you see now. Whenever there is an issue, please contact your administrator in order to resolve it.

Next to your meeting, you will find a button that says Start Meeting.

If you would like to invite these people to the meeting, click the checkbox next to each of their names, and then tap Admit.
A participant’s security details can be viewed during the meeting by tapping on the name of the participant in order to display the details. The Participants list also lets you know whether a participant has been able to authenticate.

A participant’s identity has not been verified. A host may ask an unverified participant to provide a security code in order to authenticate them. The security code should be visible to all participants of the meeting, and the code changes whenever a new participant is added to the meeting in order to maintain the security of the meeting.
When you select Meeting Info, then tap Security, you will be able to see more details about the meeting’s security.

There is end-to-end encryption in place for the meeting.

In spite of the fact that your connection to the Webex server and the desktop app is secure, there is no end-to-end encryption in the meeting.
It is highly recommended to communicate the security code to all participants prior to end-to-end encryption, either verbally or in a text message that is sent outside the Webex app, in order to verify the security of the end-to-end encryption connection. In order to make sure each member of the group sees the same code, ask everyone in the group if they see it.
You should ask all of the participants to leave the meeting and re-join, and then verify that their security code matches the current one. If any participants do not see the same security code, ask them to leave the meeting and join again. You may be seeing an updated version of the code you see right now. In case of any issues, please contact your system administrator.
