Join a Webex Meeting
Computers, mobile devices, phones, and video systems can be used to participate in a meeting. You can choose the one that works best for you based on your preferences.
There are versions 41.6 and later of this site that are covered by this article.
I am happy to inform you that we have made some changes to the options that will appear when you first join a Webex meeting. In the case that you are using an earlier version of Webex, these options may not be visible to you. In this article, you will learn how to join meetings on older versions of Webex.

Windows and Mac in Webex Meeting
- Click on the Join meeting button in your email invitation once you have opened it. The meeting host should be able to provide you with an invitation if you do not have one.
- Webex automatically downloads the app on your device if you are joining a meeting for the first time. Install the app by clicking the installer file and following the instructions that will appear on the screen.
- In the case of Linux computers or Chromebooks, you will not need to install anything to join the meeting. It is simply a matter of opening the meeting in your browser and starting the meeting.
- If you are prompted to open Webex, click the Open Webex button to proceed, otherwise click Launch Meeting to proceed.
- In order to use the full range of features of the meeting, you will need to enter your name in the meeting as you would like it to appear in the meeting, check the Remember me box, and then click Sign in.
- As an alternative, you can choose to join the meeting as a guest if you just want to join the meeting quickly without having access to all the features of the meeting.
- Click on the next button after entering your email address, and then check the Remember me box.
- Click on the Continue button when you have entered the password that was in your meeting invitation email.
- It is possible to preview your audio and video before you join the meeting to make sure that it sounds and looks good before you participate. Choosing your preferred listening method is the first step.
- Use computer audio (default)—If you wish to use a headset or speakers with your computer, you should do so.
- Call me—You can call Webex by entering your phone number. This option may or may not be available depending on the Webex plan offered by your host.
- Call in—When the meeting starts, you can use your phone to hear the audio if you prefer. Following your joining of the meeting, you will see a list of numbers for global call-ins. Please note down the meeting number, access code, and attendee ID when you are given the meeting. In order to participate in the meeting, you will need to enter the following numbers.
- When prompted, enter the relevant access code or meeting number and the attendee ID to join the meeting. You will then be able to join the meeting by selecting one of the available numbers. If you do not have your attendee ID, press # to wait in the lobby until someone lets you in the meeting, in case you do not have your attendee ID with you.
- There is a connection between your name and your audio when your attendee ID is used in the meeting. You will be unable to control audio from the application if you do not enter your attendee ID in the Participants list, so it appears as a call-in user, separated from your name in the Participants list.
- When prompted, enter the relevant access code or meeting number and the attendee ID to join the meeting. You will then be able to join the meeting by selecting one of the available numbers. If you do not have your attendee ID, press # to wait in the lobby until someone lets you in the meeting, in case you do not have your attendee ID with you.
- Don’t connect to audio—In case you do not need audio, you should use this option. The scenario may be that you are in a conference room with your team or that someone connected to the meeting through a video device is already present in the room.
- Whenever you join, you can click on the button if you would like to say hi to everyone.
- When you join, you will have the option of being seen by others if you click yes.
- When you click on the Use video system button, a list of compatible video devices will appear.
- Join the meeting by clicking the Join Meeting button.
iOS and Android in Webex Meeting
With the Webex mobile app, you can join a Webex meeting from your Apple or Android smartphone, tablet or Apple watch if you are on the go.
There will be video capability, a chat function, and a way to share material with other participants.
- Whenever it’s time to join a meeting, you will find an option to Join Meeting in your email invitation.
- In order to join the video conference, please click on Download and install the Webex Meetings app.
- Tap the number on your screen in order to join the meeting only by phone.
- After the app has been installed and the Terms of Service and Privacy Statement have been accepted, tap Open to open the app.
- If it’s your first time attending a meeting on iOS, you must select the meeting link from your invitation email or calendar again to be able to join the meeting.
- Please edit your name so that it appears how you wish in the meeting and provide your email address as well. In addition, if you don’t want to have to enter your name again once you join a meeting, you can check the Remember me check box when you are prompted to do so.
- To access all of the features of the meeting, you will need to tap the Sign in button.
- You can also select Join as a guest if you do not require access to all the features of the meetings system and just want to attend the meeting quickly.
- Click on the OK button.
- The password for the meeting can be found in the email invitation, so you will need to enter it if necessary.
- Before joining a meeting, you should change the audio and video settings on your computer.
- Use Internet for audio (default)— Make use of your phone’s speakers or headphones if you have them.
- Call me— By entering your phone number, Webex will call you on the number you provided. This option may or may not be available to you depending on the plan you have with Webex.
- Call in— When the meeting begins, you will have the option of using your phone for audio if you prefer. The conference call-in numbers can be found in your meeting invitation, which provides a list of all the global numbers. - In order to preview what you’ll look like to others before you join the meeting, tap the Start video button.
- Using a compatible video device of your choice, you can connect to the meeting and take part in it.
- Click on the Join button.
Web in Webex Meeting
If you are using a browser, you can join a meeting through the web app. When you are using a Chromebook, a Linux computer, or if you simply do not want to install anything on your computer, this is the most convenient way to join.
- You can join the meeting by clicking the Join meeting button in the email invite.
- Webex begins the process of connecting you to your meeting as soon as it starts preparing. From your browser, click the Join button if you are using a Windows computer or a Mac computer. There will be no need to install anything if you join the meeting from a Linux computer or Chromebook. There is no need to download anything, just open your browser and start the meeting.
- The meeting details page may load instead of the meeting details page. Click on the Join Meeting button if this is the case.
- In order to access the full range of meeting features, you’ll need to edit your name to reflect how you want it to appear in the meeting, click Remember me, and then click Sign in.
- When you just want to join a meeting quickly and don’t need access to all the features of the meeting, you can choose Join as a guest instead.
- Please enter the meeting password – given to you in your email invitation – if you are asked for one, and then click the ‘Continue’ button.
- In the preview window, you have the option of checking whether your audio and video are sounding and looking good before you join the meeting. Let’s begin by choosing how you would like to hear the music.

- When you click Use video system, you will be able to connect to a video device that is compatible with it.
- You can join the meeting by clicking the Join meeting button.
Phone only in Webex Meeting
You can use this method if you have issues with bandwidth consumption.
As soon as you dial into a meeting, it will be possible for you to hear all of the participants, but you will not be able to see who is participating in the meeting or what they are discussing.
- Open your meeting invitation and dial one of the numbers listed under the Join by phone section of the meeting invitation. In the email invite, you will find a list of telephone numbers provided by the host for you to use during the meeting
- Press # once you have entered your meeting code or access code.
- If you have a PIN or ID associated with your attendee account, please enter it here. Please press # if you do not have one and you will be taken to the lobby where you will be able to be admitted by the meeting host.
- Having joined the meeting, you will be able to hear everyone who is in the meeting, but you will be unable to see anything that is being discussed.
- If you want to see what is being shared in the meeting using a computer or mobile device, you can join using either.

Do I need a Webex account to join a meeting?
Meetings that you are invited to are available for you to join without having a Webex account. There is a possibility that you are not the meeting host. You should ask the host to record the meeting if you have been invited to attend.
During a meeting when the host is not present, a cohost will assume the role of the host and can record the meeting. Upon joining, the original host will take back the role of host and be able to record as well. The cohost role cannot be used by participants who hold the role of cohost.

Currently, only the desktop application is available to free users for the purpose of recording audio. The meeting can’t be recorded if you start it from the web app on a Chromebook and start it from the web app.
