Joining a Zoom meeting by phone
Zoom meetings or webinars allow you to join a virtual meeting without a computer by dialing in. You can use this if you want to:
- Your computer does not have a microphone or speaker
- and you do not have an iOS or Android smartphone.
- There is no computer audio and video on your network.
You can also join by phone using the call me feature.
Prerequisites for joining a Zoom call by phone
- The host account must be Pro or above (subscribed to the Audio Plan for toll-free phone numbers).
- You can join via phone by following these steps:
- (Audio Type user setting) Host account allows participants to join via telephone
- For joining a scheduled meeting by phone:
- During the host’s scheduled meeting, participants can join by telephone (Audio setting in the meeting settings).
- To join a webinar by phone:
- (Allow webinar attendees to call in by setting above numbers at account level) Hosting account allows participants to join webinars by telephone
- In the webinar settings of the host, you can choose to allow participants to join by telephone (Audio setting))
Zoom dial-in numbers
There are toll numbers included with all Zoom plans for many countries. There are also toll-free and additional toll numbers available for Zoom audio plan subscribers. Depending on the audio subscription and settings of the host, dial-in numbers may be available.
There is a more extensive list of international Zoom dial-in numbers if the meeting invite doesn’t provide a local number. Numbers that aren’t listed or have asterisks (***) next to them mean they’re not available on the account you’re logged into.
If you have a Zoom Phone license, you can use Zoom Phone to attend a meeting or webinar without incurring usage charges.
How to join a Zoom meeting or webinar by phone
Calling in to a meeting from a desktop computer
If you would like to join a meeting using the desktop client for video and screen sharing but would like to join the audio using your phone, please read the following sections.
Windows | macOS
- As soon as you join a Zoom meeting, the audio will automatically join. You can click Join Audio in the meeting controls if you do not see this prompt or you close it.
Note: - You can automatically join computer audio when you join a webinar. Select Switch to Phone Audio from the Audio Settings menu.
- Select the Phone Call tab.
You can join the Zoom meeting by having Zoom call your phone number if you are subscribed to the call out add-on. - Follow the instructions for dialing in:
- Choose the country or region you’re calling from in the Country/Region drop-down menu.
- Select the number you want to call.
- Type your meeting ID then the number.
- Type your participant ID followed by #.
- If prompted, enter the passcode followed by #.
Computer audio can be left and joined by phone if you joined it automatically:
- To mute or unmute, click the up arrow.
- To leave the computer, click the leave button.
- To make a phone call, click the Phone button.
Linux
- The audio will be automatically joined after you join a Zoom meeting. Click Join Audio in the meeting controls if this prompt does not appear or you close it.
Note: - You may automatically join computer audio if you join a webinar. Simply choose Phone Audio from the audio settings menu.
- Select Phone Call.
- Follow the instructions for dialing in:
- Choose the country or region you’re calling from in the drop-down menu.
- Dial one of the provided numbers.
- Enter the meeting ID followed by #.
- Type your participant ID followed by #.
- If prompted, enter the passcode followed by #.
Computer audio can be left and joined by phone if you joined it automatically:
- click Mute/Unmute.
- Then click Leave Computer Audio.
- Click Phone Call and follow the prompts.
Web
- You will be prompted to join the audio automatically after joining a Zoom meeting in your web browser. In the meeting controls, click Join Audio if this prompt does not appear or if you close it out.
- Dial in as follows:
- From the drop-down menu, select your country.
- Call one of the numbers provided.
- Provide your meeting ID followed by #.
- Type your participant ID followed by #.
- If prompted, enter your passcode followed by #.

Join a meeting by phone on mobile
iPhone
- You will be prompted to join the audio automatically after joining a Zoom meeting. In the meeting controls, tap Join Audio if the prompt doesn’t appear or you close it.
- Then tap Dial In.
- You can select the country you’re calling from by tapping the arrow at the top.
- Then tap the number you want to call.
- Then tap Dial.
- Click Call.
- The Zoom app can be accessed by swiping up on the home bar (iPhone X) or pressing the home button (iPhone 8 or older), then tapping the Zoom icon.
- The Zoom app gives you the option to leave the meeting or to leave the meeting with the telephone connected, so that you can stay connected after leaving the meeting.
You can leave the computer audio and join by phone if you joined device audio automatically:
- click More.
- Click Disconnect Audio.
- Click Join Audio and follow the instructions.
iPad
- As soon as you join a Zoom meeting, you’ll be prompted to join the audio. In the meeting controls, tap Join Audio if this prompt does not appear or if it has been closed.
- Then tap Dial In.
- You can select the country you’re calling from by tapping the arrow at the top, if it is not already selected.
- Dial the number as follows:
- Press one of the numbers provided.
- Type your meeting ID followed by #.
- Type your participant ID followed by #.
- If prompted, enter the passcode followed by #.
- After dialing in, tap Close.
You can leave the computer audio and join by phone if you joined the device audio automatically:
- Click More.
- Select Disconnect Audio.
- Click Join Audio as described above.
Android
How to join a meeting or webinar by phone only
- using an in-country number. Your carrier’s rates will apply if you dial a toll number. Dial-in numbers for international participants can be found on your meeting invitation or on our list of international dial-in numbers.
- A nine (9), ten (10), or eleven (11) digit meeting ID will be requested from you, followed by a #.
- You will be prompted to enter the host key to start the meeting if it has not yet started and join before host has been enabled, or to press # to wait if you are a participant.
- You will be asked to enter your unique participant ID. You are only eligible if you have joined via a computer or mobile device or if you are participating in a webinar. Click # to skip.
- You may be asked to enter the meeting passcode followed by #. This passcode will be provided by the host of the meeting.
After joining by computer or mobile device, you can enter your Participant ID to bind your phone and device session together and see your video when speaking on the phone. You can enter your participant ID on your phone by entering #Participant ID# once you are in the meeting.
Phone controls for participants
When participating in a Zoom meeting, you can enter the following commands via DTMF tones on your phone’s dial pad:
- *6 – Mute and unmute
- *9 – Raise your hand
How to enter the meeting password using your dial pad
We will generate a phone-specific numeric password if a password is required for the meeting. The password is listed in the invitation below the dial-in numbers and meeting ID.
How to host phone-only meetings
Zoom meetings can be joined and started from your telephone and controlled by DTMF tones. You can find your host key in your user profile if you wish to be recognized as the host
You will not be recognized as the host if you enable join before host and join only from your telephone. Don’t enable join before host if you need to host meetings from your phone with full host controls.

Considerations for joining by phone as the host
- If two or more participants join or you do not bind your phone, computer, or mobile device session with the participant ID, the meeting will timeout after forty minutes with a thirty minute warning notification.
- Licensed users on a Pro or higher account can schedule meetings that last for unlimited duration.
- The number of phones that can join a Zoom meeting or webinar depends on the account type and add-on associated with the user account.
- Licensed User: 100 Dial In Users
- Licensed + Large Meeting 200: 200 Dial In Users
- Licensed + Large Meeting 300: 300 Dial In Users
- Licensed + Large Meeting 500: 500 Dial In Users
- Licensed + Large Meeting 1000: 1000 Dial In Users
- Licensed + Webinar 500: 500 Dial In Users
- Licensed + Webinar 1000: 1000 Dial In Users
- Licensed + Webinar 3000 and above: 1984 Dial In Users
Phone controls for meeting host
You can control the meeting by entering DTMF tones on your dial pad after you have entered the host key to start the meeting. When you enter ** on your phone, all the available commands will be heard.
- *4 – End the meeting for everyone
- *5 – Lock or Unlock the meeting
- *6 – Mute or unmute yourself
- *7 – Record or stop recording
Note: all participants in the meeting will be notified when recording is stopped or started. - *# – Hear the number of people in the meeting.
- (99) – Mutes all participants or unmutes all participants
