Known issues and limitations for breakout sessions in webex
Learn about what issues or limitations are associated with breakout sessions in meetings and webinars, as well as how to avoid them.
In addition to Webex Meetings, Webex Webinars are also supported by this feature. The Edge Video Mesh is available on meeting platforms that support the Webex App, which makes this feature available on Webex App.
The following limitations apply to breakout sessions:
-
The support for end-to-end encryption is not available for meetings in which end-to-end encryption is used.
-
If a participant joins a breakout session as well as the main Chat drop-down list, their name will appear in the main drop-down list.
-
As soon as attendees reconnect to the main meeting if there are any issues with network connectivity during breakout sessions, they are returned to the main meeting.
-
The Breakout session assignment dialog can only be displayed by one host or cohost at a time.
-
When the audio connection type for a meeting is set only to Use VoIP and a Collaboration Meeting Room option (located under the meeting settings) has not been enabled for the host, breakout sessions cannot be selected in the meeting controls if the audio connection type is set only to Use VoIP only.
-
The Meetings mobile app does not have support for Q&A during breakout sessions.
-
The Webex system can also move participants into breakout sessions automatically if the participants join the meeting before the hosts have created the breakout sessions. Participants who join a breakout session after the host creates it will need to be manually moved after the host creates it. If the option Assign participants automatically is selected by the host, then this limitation will apply.

Users on devices will not be able to select the breakout session they wish to attend when breakout sessions are set up so that participants are free to choose any session they choose.
-
There is a problem with the Meetings app when the user is trying to pair with a device that is already in a breakout session, and the device is showing a message saying “device busy”.
-
In a breakout session where users are using devices, they are not able to ask for help.
-
The host does not display broadcast messages on the devices when they are sent by the host.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many breakout sessions can you have on WebEx?
The number of breakout sessions reached 100
Add a breakout session to a Webex meeting, rename it, or delete it from an existing Webex meeting.
The Breakout session assignment dialog box is only able to be opened by one host or cohost at a time, so make sure to keep that in mind. It is possible to add up to 100 breakout sessions to a meeting at a time.
What is the limit for WebEx?
It is possible for up to 100 people to attend your meeting if the host of the meeting has a free account. There is no limit to the number of people that can attend an event when the host has a paid account for Webex Calling, Webex App, or Meetings.
How do WebEx breakout rooms work?
Using a WebEx breakout room, a meeting host can have multiple smaller groups of a set number of participants in a video conference session, so that the host can divide a large video meeting or webinar into several smaller groups. Meeting attendees can collaborate on projects, develop new ideas, network in a group, and make changes to files at break-out sessions, which are live sessions.
Is there a time limit on free Webex meetings?
Take advantage of your free Webex account by using it to send messages and make phone calls to other Webex users. With Webex, you can hold secure, virtual meetings lasting up to 40 minutes, with a maximum of 100 attendees participating in your meeting. To access more features of the Webex App, you can download the free version, which is available for download here.
Can I run two WebEx sessions at the same time?
If you have a Support Center site, you are allowed to conduct 4-8 support sessions at the same time. This rule does not apply to other meetings.
Why is Webex not responding?
The problem may occur because the video component installed on the computer is conflicting with the video card installed on the computer, or the video camera installed on the computer. It is possible that the software installation for the meeting has been corrupted. Computers may be equipped with TV tuners or video capture devices.
