Managing the activity of messages in Slack: How to Do It

Note: It is not possible to view the activity of messages that are sent over private channels.

How to Enable or disable the Slack message activity?

For Business+

The owners of workspaces and the administrators of workspaces have the ability to allow or stop message activity for their workspace:

1Simply click the name of your workspace in the sidebar while you are on your desktop.

2 Followed by clicking on workspace settings, select Tools & Settings from the menu options.

3 Click the tab labeled “Permissions.”

4 Locate the Expand button next to the Message action.

5 Make sure that the box next to the Enable Message activity is checked or unchecked.

6Use the Save button.

For Enterprise Grid:

The ability to allow or disable message activity for their organization is available to org owners and org administrators. For both internal channels and Slack Connect channels, they can manage this responsibility:1 Simply click the name of your workspace in the sidebar while you are on your desktop.

2 From the menu, select Tools & settings, and then click on the heading that says Organization settings.

3 In the left sidebar, select Settings, and then choose Organization settings from the drop-down menu.

4 To edit the message activity for public channels, click the Edit button next to it.

5 Click the Save setting button once you have indicated whether you want to use Slack Connect channels or internal channels.

How to Manage permissions for the Slack Message Activity

Business+

The only people who can use message activity when it is enabled are workspace owners and workspace administrators. They also have the option of granting this authority to certain members, including the following:1 Simply click the name of your workspace in the sidebar while you are on your desktop.

2 Followed by clicking on workspace settings, select Tools & Settings from the menu options.

3 Click the tab labeled “Permissions.”

4 Locate the Expand button next to the Message action.

5 Choose who can observe the activity of the message.

6 Save the file.

For Enterprise Grid:

Tip: You also have the option of assigning the Message activity manager system role to members in order to make it possible for them to view message activity.
