Minimizing and exiting Zoom
Overview
Zoom’s desktop client or mobile app can run in the background while you work on other tasks, allowing you to receive notifications about chats or meeting invitations. If the admin has recently made changes to the application, you can exit the application to apply those changes.

- Zoom mobile app
- Android: 5.2 (45104.0831) or higher
- iOS: 5.2.1 (44038.0816) or higher
- Basic, Licensed, or On-Prem user
Windows

You can minimize the Zoom desktop client so that it continues to run in the background by following these steps:From the Zoom desktop client’s top-left corner:
- Zoom window can be closed by clicking the red circle; open Launchpad and click the Zoom icon to open Zoom window.
- Zoom can be minimized to the dock by clicking the yellow circle, and opened by clicking the Zoom icon in the dock.
Zoom can be exited by clicking zoom.us on the top-left menu bar, then clicking Quit Zoom.
Linux
Click on the green circle with an x inside located at the top-right corner of Zoom’s window to minimize the desktop client so that it continues to run in the background.
Click the Zoom icon in the task bar, then click Close.
You can exit Zoom desktop client by right-clicking the Zoom icon in the system tray (bottom-right corner of the taskbar), then clicking Exit.
Android
Zoom can be minimized on your Android device so that it continues to run in the background:
- Touch the square icon on the bottom of the screen.
- Tap Zoom to access it.
- To exit Zoom, swipe up or down.
Tap the circle icon at the bottom of the screen to exit Zoom on your Android device
iOS
If you want the Zoom app to run in the background on your iOS device, minimize it as follows:
- No physical home button on your iOS device?
- While in the Zoom app, swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen.
- If you have a physical home button on your iOS device:
- While in the Zoom app, press the home button.
Exit the Zoom app by pressing the home button.
- On iOS devices without a home button:
- Zoom will open the app switcher when you swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause.
- You can find Zoom by swiping left or right.
- Exit Zoom by swiping up.
- If you have a physical home button on your iOS device, you can:

- You can find Zoom by swiping left or right.
- To exit Zoom, swipe up.
