My microphone isn’t working in Microsoft Teams
You might have a microphone issue if others cannot hear you in Teams calls and meetings. For help getting back on track, here are some solutions.
Check for updates
Check your Windows or Mac OS update and Teams app version if others can’t hear you or audio from your microphone isn’t being detected in Teams calls and meetings.
Click on your profile picture in Teams and choose Check for updates to see if any updates have been made. As soon as an update is available, it usually installs in the background.
Check if your microphone is in use
Ensure that your microphone can be used in Teams by following these steps:
- Be sure to close all other apps (such as Skype or FaceTime) that may be using your microphone.
- Try unplugging and replugging your external microphone if you are using one.
- Restarting your device can often save you time and effort.
Make a test call
You can test your microphone by making a test call.
Choosing your profile picture, then Settings > Devices will allow you to place a test call. Under Audio devices, select Make a test call.
Your microphone, speaker, and camera will be tested during a test call. Record a short message as instructed by Test Call Bot. You will be able to hear the message. After the test call is over, you’ll receive a summary and can make changes to your device settings.
Notes:
- For now, only English is available for test calls. We will add more languages in the near future.
- You can expect your test recording to be deleted within a few minutes after the call. Microsoft will not retain or use this information.
- Teams on the web do not offer the test call feature at the moment.

- Turn the setting off then on again if it is already on
- Restart your device after closing all apps

Your microphone might not be working in Windows 10 if your drivers aren’t up-to-date. You can check your Windows drivers step-by-step here.
Troubleshooting for Mac OS

Troubleshooting for Teams on the web
You can set up your microphone and camera properly if you’re using Teams on the web:
Check your browser settings
The permissions and settings of your browser should be checked. To use your microphone and/or camera in Teams, you may need to enable them.
You can find the microphone and camera in Settings (or Options) of Chrome or other browsers (like Microsoft Edge or Firefox).
As an example, in Chrome:
- View permissions and data stored across sites under Settings > Privacy and Security > Site Settings.
- Click on Search and type “teams.microsoft.com”.
- Select “teams.microsoft.com” from the “Microsoft.com” group.
- Microphones and cameras should be allowed access here.
