Required password enforcement for Webex Meetings, Webex Events (classic), Webex Webinars, and Webex Training sessions
There is an automatic password creation function in Webex sites for meetings, events (classic), webinars, and training sessions. A password protects your meeting from unauthorized attendees and ensures that your meetings are as secure as possible. In this case, the required password enforcement applies both to channels that have recently been launched as well as to slower channels. Please contact the customer support team at your Service Provider if you would like help with changing your password if you subscribe to Webex through that provider.
Affected meetings
In the Meetings, Events (classic), Webinars, and Training sessions, password enforcement applies to guests who sign up through the desktop or web app.
This isn’t applicable to meetings in Personal Rooms, meetings in Outlook Productivity Tools, or meetings in Scheduler for Microsoft Office 365, as the password enforcement isn’t applicable.
Join experience
Attendees are not affected by the requirement for password enforcement when they join. A participant can for example join a meeting by clicking the URL in the invitation email or the Meetings mobile app, without having to enter their password, by simply clicking on the URL in the meeting invitation. If the meeting number is entered on the web page of the meeting, users must enter a password in order to participate in the meeting.
Cisco does not require attendees who dial into meetings through video or phone to enter a password when they dial in via these devices. Administrators are strongly advised to set up their Webex site to require passwords for attendees joining via phones or video devices in addition to those joining via Webex websites.
Schedule meeting experience
When a meeting is scheduled through Productivity Tools, the Scheduler, or the Webex site, users will not be required to enter a password when they schedule the meeting. There is an automatic addition of the password to the account.
Password enforcement meeting scenarios
Using Cisco’s Webex site administration or Control Hub, Cisco strongly suggests that customers enforce a password for this method in order to prevent unauthorized use.
