The different channels and devices that are on which channel can be seen under Devices > Software in your Control Hub under Devices > Software. The number of devices that are on each channel can also be seen. The schedule can also be seen on this page, so you can keep track of when certain software releases are going to be released.
-
It is possible for Board, Desk, and Room Series with RoomOS 10 or newer to upgrade their software using the advanced upgrade option.
-
The advanced software upgrade option is not available in the Preview channel of the app.
-
There will no longer be a monthly software release cycle for RoomOS 9.
Software upgrade on devices
RoomOS comes pre-installed on your device, and it is automatically updated by default, so that you do not need to worry about it. RoomOS is automatically updated so that you always have the latest version of the software installed on your computer.
There is a 15 minute check every 15 minutes to see if there is new software available. When there is a new update available for the device, the update is automatically downloaded. The device checks to see if the upgrade is urgent after the download has been completed.
-
Low:If the user does not upgrade before midnight, the device will prompt them to do so.
-
Medium:At the time when the device is idle, the user is prompted to upgrade the device.
It is possible to postpone the software upgrade with 6 hours from the time that the user is presented with the software upgrade prompt. The device starts the upgrade if it does not receive a response from the local user within 60 seconds after it receives the upgrade dialog. During the upgrade process, the device is unable to be used while it is being upgraded, and it will take 1-3 minutes.
The software version of the device can be upgraded immediately by going to Settings > About the device > Software updates in case a new version of software is available.
Upgrade services are used to notify the device what software it needs to be upgraded and how urgently it needs to be upgraded. A rollout phase is also part of the upgrade service, which allows upgrades to be distributed within an organization over a period of time.
The new stable software is usually distributed within two hours after the new software has been released to all devices that are online during the deployment of the new stable software. Additionally, there is a possibility that devices may take up to 15 minutes to poll for new updates before they receive them. There is a low level of urgency associated with the upgrade at the beginning. As soon as the upgrade service reaches 24 hours, the urgency of the upgrade will be changed from urgent to medium.
Advanced software upgrade
It is by default that devices on the Stable channel are programmed to receive monthly software upgrades, and the devices on that channel are automatically updated. With advanced software upgrades, you are able to select which software release goes into the stable channel and which one goes into the verification channel. In order to enable the verification channel, advanced software upgrades must be enabled in the configuration. As you can see in the images below, you can choose from an array of available releases for each of these channels, or you can choose automatic upgrades.
The Verification channel can, for example, be used when software upgrades are automated whereas the Stable channel can be used when software updates are chosen manually.
The advanced software upgrade will enable you to choose from the three most recent monthly releases of RoomOS software for the stable and verification channels when an advanced software upgrade has been enabled. The rolling window for the release of the software will run for three months and will automatically expire after three months. You can, for instance, choose from the August, September, and October releases if you are using the RoomOS October release, for example, if you are using the RoomOS October release. The August release of RoomOS will expire once RoomOS November is released.
In the event of a critical security issue, we may automatically apply critical patches without prior notice. As soon as your devices are updated with a new version of the software with patches, they will receive a software upgrade.
What happens if you don’t upgrade to a selected software release?
You can see the expiry date for each of the software releases you have selected for your channels on the Software page of Control Hub. There is usually a three-month expiration period after a release has been released. When the version of software you have chosen is about to expire, then you can create an alert to notify you (see the Set an alert for software expiry section below) to take action.
After the release expires, the channel will be automatically updated with the new software if no action is taken before the expiration date. Therefore, those devices that are connected to that channel will receive the most recent stable software updates.
Enable advanced software upgrade
If you enable advanced software upgrades in your organization, you will have a global setting that applies to all devices running RoomOS 10 or later. On the devices, it does not change the version of the software that is running. With advanced software upgrade enabled, you will be able to choose one of the versions out of the available releases for the Stable and Verification channels, depending on your needs. For information on selecting a software release for a particular channel, see the next section.
