Selecting data center regions for meetings/webinars in zoom app
Customers are able to select where their data is processed in transit by Zoom by making choices about which data centers they wish to use. In the case of paid accounts, the account owner or admin can set which data center regions they want to use when storing their real-time meeting data and webinar data while it is in transit. Data in transit can be opted in or out of depending on the specific region of the data center. There will be a restriction placed on your account if you use the default region, which is the region in which your account is provisioned.
In an active network, sometimes referred to as a private network, data in transit is data that is actively being moved from one place to another, such as across the internet or within a private network. It is understood that data at rest includes data that does not actively move from one device to another, nor does it actively move from one network to another, such as data stored in a cloud data center.
There may be differences in the available regions depending on how your account is provisioned.
At any time, account owners and administrators will have the option of opting into the China data center for their account. You will not be able to be connected to the mainland of China for data transit, if you do not opt in by April 25, 2020. There may be performance issues experienced by users on mainland China because they will be connected to data centers that are located outside of China.
When you opt out of a region, the Zoom Conference Room Connector (CRC) endpoints and the regional dial-in numbers for meetings and webinars will be disabled for your meetings and webinars, as well as the local dial-in numbers. The participants of the meeting or webinar can still connect via phone dial-in or CRC, however they must be based in a country or region that is permitted for the use of a number or CRC endpoint in this meeting or webinar. It is important that the meeting or webinar invitation includes a list of available dial-in numbers and CRC endpoints so that attendees can find them easily.
Selecting a data center region applies only to the transit of data during meetings and webinars. It is important to note that the choices you make will not affect where the data is stored at rest. In addition, Zoom Phone and other Zoom features are not affected by data center region selections.
