SIP or XMPP Interdomain Federation for Webex
If you have the Hybrid Message service enabled for the Webex users, you will be able to facilitate communication between users of the Webex App and users of SIP or XMPP in federated domains using your on-premises Instant Messaging and Presence service.
Users of your Webex App will be able to communicate with users in federated XMPP or SIP domains thanks to this integration. Because the integration employs the Cisco IM and Presence service that is hosted on your premises in conjunction with the Webex Hybrid Message Service, all of your Webex App users need to have the Hybrid Message feature activated.
Requirements for SIP Federation
Prerequisites
You are responsible for ensuring the following:
- The Instant Messaging and Presence Service (IM and Presence Service) for Cisco Unified Communications Manager is now completely functional.
Check to ensure that the automated presence authorisation setting is active.
- Your IM and Presence deployment now uses SIP, which has been setup. Jabber and the SIP federated domain are presently able to communicate with one another using SIP messaging and presence.
- Users now have access to an enabled and operational Hybrid Message service.
- Offline instant messaging must be enabled in both the IM and Presence Service and your Skype for Business server in order for users’ messages to be preserved even when they are unable to access the service. This step is completely optional.
- If you choose to prevent external communication, you are required to add the SIP federated domains to the list of those that are permitted. This step is completely optional. For further information, go here.
Things to Keep in Mind
- You are only able to send plain text separated by spaces.
- Only places that can accommodate two persons will be supported.
The following demonstrates the state that users observe in Jabber and Skype for Business if there is a change in Webex’s current status.
