Support for Cisco Webex Meetings for macOS Catalina
Apple has given its stamp of approval for the Webex Meetings desktop application to function on macOS Catalina (Version 10.15).
Lockdown Support
Customers who are using lockdown versions of the desktop app will be required to use WBS39.5.13 or a later version.
Earlier versions may have restricted users to only being able to arrange, begin, and join meetings through the use of the Webex Meetings web scheduler and the web app. In general, we recommend that you wait to upgrade to macOS Catalina until after you have upgraded your Webex application. This is because the two upgrades are inherently intertwined.
Security and Privacy Permission Updates
Users need additional security and privacy rights in order to fully access all of the Webex Meetings capabilities now that macOS Catalina is supported. These permissions are necessary for full access.
The desktop application will prompt you to grant Webex Meetings the following rights when you access any of the following features for the very first time:
Accessing the Microphone
After you see this question, click the OK button to continue using your microphone during the meeting.
Even if you select the option to “Don’t Allow,” you will still be able to grant permissions by navigating to the “System Preferences” > “Security & Privacy” menu on your device. To activate Cisco Webex Meeting, select the Privacy tab and then look for the area labeled “Microphone.”
In order for the rights you granted during the meeting to take effect, you will need to restart the desktop application.
Accessing the Camera
After the prompt displays, click the OK button to continue using your camera during the meeting.
Even if you select the option to “Don’t Allow,” you will still be able to grant permissions by navigating to the “System Preferences” > “Security & Privacy” menu on your device. Cisco Webex Meeting needs to be enabled, which may be done by going to the Privacy page and finding the Camera section.
In order for the rights you granted during the meeting to take effect, you will need to restart the desktop application.
Accessing Screen Recording
After the prompt displays, click the OK button to make screen recording and sharing available during meetings.
Even if you use the desktop app and choose the “Don’t Allow” button, you may still allow rights by going to the “System Preferences” > “Security & Privacy” menu on your device. Cisco Webex Meeting needs to be enabled, which may be done by going to the Privacy tab and finding the area labeled Screen Recording.
If you click the button labeled “Don’t Allow” on the web app, the permissions for the web browser you’re using will need to be enabled.
In order for the rights you granted during the meeting to take effect, you will need to restart the desktop application.
Sharing from a Third-Party App
After the prompt appears, click OK when prompted to continue in order to share content from third-party applications during meetings.
Even if you select the option to “Don’t Allow,” you will still be able to grant permissions by navigating to the “System Preferences” > “Security & Privacy” menu on your device. You may enable the applications that are associated with Cisco Webex Meeting by going to the Privacy tab and finding the Automation section.
It is not necessary to restart the desktop program in order for the modifications to take effect.
Resolved Permissions Requests
Users no longer need to grant access to Webex Meetings in order to enable keyboard input monitoring when attending meetings, as this requirement was removed with the release of the WBS39.10.3 update. Apple is now able to check the Webex Meetings desktop client for dangerous software. This capability was previously unavailable.
