Switch your view in Webex Meetings, Webex Webinars, and Webex Events (classic)
It is possible to keep in touch with your colleagues during a meeting, webinar, or event by choosing from the different view options within the video layout options. Depending on the content shared or the active speaker, you may only want to focus on that.
Video layout views
A total of four views are available for you to choose from. Each of these views has its own advantages, and you can choose whichever view you prefer at any time if you so desire.
-
Grid view—Useful when you want to divide your attention across a lot of speakers in a large meeting.
-
Stack view—Useful when you want to see other participants appear above the active speaker or shared content.
-
Side by side view—Useful when you want to see participants appear next to the active speaker or shared content.
-
Full-screen view—Useful when you want to float panels and scale them freely, or drag them to another monitor.
The maximum number of participants in a Webex session or call is based on the number of participants in the meeting, webinar, or event. To learn more, see What is the maximum number of participants in a Webex session or call?
Grid view
The grid view allows you to see up to 25 participants at a time while viewing the content in real time. If no one in the meeting shares content during the meeting, then Grid view can be used. You will need the Cisco Webex video platform version 2.0 in order to use this feature. See Find your Webex Meetings version number if you aren’t sure which version you are using.
The video systems can provide up to 25 streams of video at any given time. As soon as there are more than 25 participants in the meeting, the thumbnail display will show the name of the video system rather than the video stream itself on the second and any other subsequent pages of the meeting.
In the thumbnail collection of videos, the thumbnails are sorted according to who has the hosting or presenting roles, who has spoken most recently, and who is showcasing their video, as well as alphabetically. First, a list of participants who have most recently spoken appears, then a list of participants who are showing a video. The first six thumbnail videos can be locked in focus by clicking on them.
The Next page and Previous page icons can be selected, if there are more than 25 participants, in order to adjust who you see.
Stack view
This view shows the active speaker or the content that has been shared on the stage in the stack view. There is a thumbnail video of each participant above the stage, which is displayed in the middle of the page.
The thumbnail videos are sorted alphabetically based on who holds the host and presenter roles, whose video was viewed the most recently, whether they are showing their video, and who holds the host and presenter roles. Following the list of most recent speakers, we now have the participants who are showing their videos following the list of participants who have spoken most recently. The first six thumbnail videos can be locked in focus if you wish.
By selecting the Next page and Previous page icons, you are able to select which participants are shown in the thumbnail videos.
As soon as someone starts sharing content, the focus begins to shift to the content that is being shared.
Side by side view
On the stage, you will be able to see the active speaker or sharing content in a side-by-side view. You can view thumbnail videos of the other participants to the right of the stage to the left of the stage.
A sort order is applied to the thumbnail videos based on the host’s role, the presenter’s role, the speaker’s role, the video shower’s role, and the chronological order of the thumbnail videos. There is a list of recent speakers at the top of the page, followed by those who are showing their videos (the ones who have spoken most recently).
As soon as someone starts sharing content, the focus begins to shift to the content that is being shared.
Full-screen view
When you switch to full-screen view, the menu bar will be hidden at the top of the application window, while the video content will be displayed at a larger size, so you can better see what you are watching. Any of the video layouts you choose can be viewed in Full-screen mode in addition to the default video layout.
It’s easier to resize or move panels around the shared content, even to a second monitor, when you’re using full-screen view when there’s shared content. It also increases the size of the shared content when there are panels shared.
Switch your layout
Choosing a view can be done by navigating to Layout and then selecting a view from the drop-down menu.
There is a default layout for all content that is not shared, that is, Grid view, with the icon changing based on the layout you are using at that moment.
Use Full-screen view
In the Layout menu, click Full-screen view, and then toggle it on.

What is the difference between Webex meeting and personal room?
There must be a host or alternative host who can start a Personal Room on behalf of the host or the host’s delegation. When someone begins sharing their screen, you can close the Participants and Chat windows by pressing the X button at the top right corner of the window once they have started sharing. As soon as these windows are closed, you can select the Layout button on the toolbar and select the Full Screen option. By clicking Full Screen, the presenter’s screen will be shown in full screen.
Why does Webex not show I’m in a meeting?
In webex meetings, it appears that your status does not display a video symbol when you join through the link. If you join through the Webex app, you will see the video symbol on your status when you click the ‘Join’ button either from the meeting calendar or from the webex pop-up. Thank you for your help.
