Switching between or merging a call and meeting in zoom

The following steps can be taken if you are in both a Zoom phone call and a Zoom meeting at the same time:

• When you’re in a Zoom meeting, you can start a Zoom Phone call and then switch back to the Zoom meeting when you’re done.

• It is possible to open a Zoom meeting while in a Zoom phone call, then switch back to the phone call after the Zoom meeting has ended.

• In order to merge a Zoom Phone call with a Zoom meeting, you will need to do the following.

Prerequisites

• Zoom desktop client for Windows, macOS, or Linux, 5.2.1 or higher

• Zoom mobile app for Android or iOS, 5.2.1 or higher

• Zoom Phone license

How to start a Zoom Phone call while in a Zoom meeting

1. If you are currently in a Zoom meeting, open the Zoom client or app on your mobile device and navigate to the home screen.

   • Desktop client: Click on the Zoom icon in the main window of your browser.

   • Mobile app (Android): On the bottom left hand corner of the screen, press the back button to return to the previous page.

   • Mobile app (iOS): From the main screen, select More then Minimize Meeting.

2. Zoom Phone is a service that allows you to make or receive phone calls. Please make sure you click/tap Hold Meeting Audio & Accept in the call notification if you are receiving a Zoom Phone call. Accept if you haven’t joined the meeting audio.
   As soon as the switch is made, Zoom will display a message asking for confirmation.

3. Click/tap on the Continue button.
   The audio for the meeting will be switched to the audio for the phone call. The audio for the meeting will be disconnected from your computer.
   

   Note: All participants in your meeting will continue to be able to see the video from Zoom. 

4. You can switch back to the meeting in the next section if you wish to do so.

Switch audio from a Zoom Phone call to a Zoom meeting

1. Navigate to the in-meeting controls while you are in a Zoom Phone call.

   • Desktop client: From the Home tab, select Back to Meeting from the list of options.

   • Mobile app: You can access the floating notification icon in the meeting by tapping it.

2. When you are on the meeting control screen, you can click or tap Join Audio.

   It will be placed on hold when the Zoom Phone call is placed on hold.

How to start a Zoom meeting while in a Zoom Phone call

1. In order to return to the Zoom client or Zoom app’s home screen during a Zoom Phone call, go back to the Zoom client’s main screen.

   • Desktop client: Select the Home tab from the menu bar.

   • Mobile app (Android): On the bottom left hand corner of the screen, press the back button to return to the previous page.

   • Mobile app (iOS): Tap the More button, then tap the Minimize Meeting button.

2. You can join or start a Zoom meeting at any time.
   A message will appear on Zoom’s screen asking you to confirm the switch.

3. Please click/tap on the Continue button.
   There will be a switch between the audio from the phone call and the meeting. As soon as Zoom receives the phone call, it will put it on hold.

4. For those who wish to switch back to the Zoom meeting, please refer to the next section.

Switch audio from a Zoom meeting to a Zoom Phone call

1. You can access the in-call control panel while you are in a Zoom meeting.

   • Desktop: Click on the Phone tab in the main Zoom window once it is open.

   • Mobile: On the floating notification icon, tap on the On Hold icon.

2. In order to unhold the call, simply click or tap the Unhold button on the in-call controls.

   As soon as the meeting ends, you will switch back to the phone call to continue the conversation. The meeting audio will be disconnected once you have disconnected.
   

   Note: When you are participating in a Zoom meeting, your video will continue to be displayed to the participants. 

How to merge a Zoom Phone call in to a Zoom meeting

1. If you wish to initiate a Zoom Phone call or Zoom meeting, please follow one of the sections above.

2. Make sure that the audio on the Zoom Phone is active. Switch the audio from the meeting to Zoom Phone if the audio isn’t active.

3. Using the controls at the bottom of the screen, click or tap Meet.

4. You can merge the two files by clicking/tapping Merge.
   As soon as the participant of the call joins the Zoom meeting, Zoom will add him or her to the meeting. In the event that you have enabled waiting rooms for the meeting, the participant will automatically be added to the waiting room, so that you can admit him or her to the meeting.
   

     Note: Zoom will elevate your phone call to a Zoom meeting if you select New. The current meeting will be ended if you select New.
