Testing audio before Zoom Meetings
To join an audio meeting, you can use a computer or a telephone. Test your audio before or after joining the meeting by following these steps.
Test your audio and familiarize yourself with the meeting controls by joining a test meeting.

- Microphones, such as the built-in microphone, USB microphones and inline microphones for headphones

Windows | macOS
Testing audio before joining a meeting
You can test your speaker and microphone before joining a meeting if you haven’t enabled the option to join by computer audio:
- Click Test Speaker and Microphone after joining a meeting.
- A pop-up window will appear to test your speakers. You can switch speakers if you don’t hear the ringtone by using the drop-down menu or clicking No. Continue with the microphone test by clicking Yes.
- Using the drop-down menu or clicking No will switch microphones until you hear the reply. If you hear a replay, click Yes.
- After you have finished testing your speakers and microphone, click Join with Computer audio.
- You can join the test meeting with the selected microphone and speakers by clicking Join with Computer Audio.
Testing audio using audio settings
Test your audio settings before or during a meeting by going to your audio settings:
In advance of a meeting
- Log in to Zoom.
- Go to Settings by clicking your profile picture.
- Select the Audio tab.
- Check your speaker by following the steps below.
In a meeting
When you are already in a meeting, you can access your audio settings and test your audio.
- You can unmute/mute the meeting by clicking the arrow next to Mute/Unmute.
- Open the Audio Options by clicking the Audio button.
Checking your computer speakers
- Play a test tone by clicking Test Speaker.
- You can adjust the Volume or select a different speaker if you are unable to hear it.

Adjusting your computer microphone
- Zoom will pick up audio when the green Input Level bar moves in Microphone section.
- To test your microphone, click Test Mic.
- You will be able to hear your recording. Click Recording when you are finished and it will play back. Alternatively, you can change the input level or select another microphone.
- Zoom will automatically adjust the input volume if you check Automatically adjust microphone settings.

How to troubleshoot your microphone
- If you are on Mac OS 10.14 Mojave or earlier and can’t access the microphone, verify Zoom has access to the microphone by checking your operating system permissions. More information can be found in Using the Zoom Client and Zoom Rooms with macOS 10.14 Mojave.
- Use the Windows search box to find Microphone privacy settings if you are using Windows 10 and cannot access the microphone.
- Enable Zoom access by turning on the toggle Allow apps to access your microphone. Please refer to the Microsoft troubleshooting instructions for more information.

Testing audio using audio settings
You can test your audio either before or during a meeting by navigating to your audio settings:before the meeting
- open Zoom.
- Click your profile picture and then Settings.
- Test your speaker and microphone by following the steps below.
When you join a meeting
Before joining a meeting, you can test your speaker and microphone if you haven’t enabled the setting to join automatically by computer audio:
- Click Test speaker and microphone after joining the meeting.An audio settings window will appear..

During meetings
When you are already in a meeting, you can access your audio settings and test your audio.
- Click the arrow next to Mute/Unmute in the meeting controls.
- Select Audio Options from the dropdown menu.
- Test your speaker or microphone by following the steps below.
How to check your computer speakers
- Press Test Speaker to hear a sound.
- Choose a different speaker from the menu or adjust the output volume if you cannot hear it.

How to adjust your computer’s microphone
- Zoom will pick up audio when the Input Level bar moves in the microphone section.
- You can adjust the input level or select another microphone if Zoom is not picking up your microphone.
- If you want Zoom to automatically adjust the input volume, check Automatically adjust microphone settings.

How to test and adjust audio on mobile devices
Android

- If you are joining a Zoom meeting for the first time, you will be asked to give access to your microphone.
- You will be asked to join the audio by choosing one of the following options when you join the meeting:
- Call through a device audio: Uses the internet to connect the audio.
- Dial-in: Provides options to call into the Zoom Meeting by phone.
- Dial My Phone: Calls your phone to join the meeting. Meeting hosts must have an audio plan.
- By tapping Audio, you can open the prompt again if you choose Cancel.
- At the bottom left-hand corner, you will find mute and unmute buttons for the microphone.
- By tapping More, then Disconnect Audio, you can disconnect audio so that you can reconnect it using a different method.
iOS
Meeting with device audio connected
- Whenever you join a Zoom meeting for the first time, you’ll be asked to allow access to your microphone.
- Joining the audio will be prompted when you join the meeting.
- Here are your audio options:

- Call using Internet Audio: Internet-based audio connection
- Dial in: Allows participants to join Zoom Meetings over the phone
- Call My Phone: Participants can join the meeting by calling their phones. Requires an audio plan for the meeting host
- Alternatively, you can tap Join Audio again if you choose Cancel.
- In the bottom left corner, you will see a microphone icon for muting and unmuting.
- Tap More and then Disconnect Audio to disconnect audio. This will let you join audio using another method.
