Text Messaging on Your DECT Handset – webex
You can send text messages from your DECT handset.
Text Messages
It is possible that the administrator of the system will allow you to send and receive text messages from other employees using the system. It’s possible that you can even send text messages to folks who aren’t even on the system. The limitations on your text message usage should be communicated to you by your administrator.
You have the option of viewing the history of your text messages, as well as customizing certain messaging parameters to better fit your requirements.
You can send a Message via Text
You have the ability to send a message that is up to 160 characters long.
1. Press Menu .
2. Choose Messaging .
3. To bring up the Drafts screen, you need to press the right button on the navigation ring.
4. Select the New option.
5. You can type your message by using the keypad. The total number of characters in your message is displayed in the lower right hand corner of the screen.
6. If you require specific symbols that are not displayed on the keypad, press the Symbol button and select the symbol that you require. This step is optional.
7. (Optional) Simply remove the last character of your message by using the Clear button.
8. To delete the final character of your message, press the Clear button or the right softkey (this step is optional).
9. Press Send.
10. Select the appropriate message priority from the following options:
- Normal: The message will be delivered using the default setting.
- Urgent: The communication is being sent with an urgent designation. On the recipient’s Inbox screen, the message displays a symbol in the form of a question mark with an asterisk next to it. When you see the message in your Sent messages screen, you will notice a symbol that looks like a question mark next to the message. Messages that have been marked as urgent are moved to the top of the list.
11. You can select the receiver of the message using one of the following options:
- Contacts: When you choose this option, your local contacts list is displayed and you can select a contact.
- Enter number: When you choose this option, you enter a phone number in the next screen.
- Central Directory: When you choose this option, the central phone directory is displayed and you can select a contact.
12. Press Send.
13. Click the OK button.
Reply to a Text Message Immediately
You are able to swiftly respond to a text message directly from the screen that displays the text messages you have received. You also have the option to respond later from the history of your text messages.
1. Hit the “Reply” button.
2. You can type your message by using the keypad. The number of characters remaining in your message is displayed in the lower right hand corner of the screen.
3. If you need specific symbols that are not on the keypad, press the Symbol button, and then select the symbol you need to use. This step is optional.
4. (Optional) Simply remove the last character of your message by using the Clear button.
5. Press Send.
6. Select the priority of the message from the following options:
- Normal: The message will be delivered using the default setting.
- Urgent : The communication is being sent with an urgent designation. On the recipient’s Inbox screen, the message displays a symbol in the form of a question mark with an asterisk next to it. When you see the message in your Sent messages screen, you will notice a symbol that looks like a question mark next to the message. Messages that have been marked as urgent are moved to the top of the list.
7. Press Send.
8. Click the OK button.
Add a Text Message Sender to Your Local Contacts
You have the option of adding the sender of a text message to your local contact list directly from the screen where the message is shown when it is received. You can also add the individual at a later time through the history of your text messages.
A text message must be open in front of you before you can proceed.
- To see more, press More.
- Select the option to Save as a contact.
- Press the Select button.
- Press the Save button once you have entered the name using the keypad.
- Select the phone number entry you want to add (Work, Mobile, Home, or Other), then press the Add button.
- To store the contact number, press the Save button.
- To save the new contact, press the Save button.
Append a Text Message Sender to a Local Contact
When you get a text message, the screen that displays the message gives you the option to attach information about the sender to a local contact list that you already have. You also have the option to add the information at a later time by accessing the text message history (for more information, see View Your Text Message History).
A text message must be open in front of you before you can proceed.
- To see more, press More.
- Select the option to append to the contact.
- Activate the Append button.
- Press the Append button when you have a phone number entry highlighted (Work, Mobile, Home, or Other).
- To store the contact number, press the Save button.
- Give the answer “Yes.”
Forward a Text Message
You have the option to swiftly forward any text message that you receive directly from the screen that displays your text messages.
A text message must be open in front of you before you can proceed.
- To see more, press More.
- Go ahead and choose Forward.
- You can type your message by using the keypad. The total number of characters in your message is displayed in the lower right hand corner of the screen.
- If you need specific symbols that are not on the keypad, press the Symbol button, and then select the symbol you need to use. This step is optional.
- (Optional) Simply remove the last character of your message by using the Clear button.
- Press Send.
- Select the priority of the message from the following options:

8. You can select the person who will receive the message by using one of the following options:

- Contacts: When you choose this option, your local contacts list is displayed and you can select a contact.
- Enter number: When you choose this option, you enter a phone number in the next screen.

9. Press Send.
10. Click the OK button.
Delete a Text Message Immediately
After reading a text message, you have the option to erase it from your device.
A text message must be open in front of you before you can proceed.
- To see more, press More.
- Choose Delete message.
- Give the answer Yes.
Delete all Text Messages
After reading a text message, you have the option to erase it from your device.
After you have finished reading a received text message, you have the option to delete any and all remaining texts. The texts that were previously stored in your text messaging inbox have been removed.
A text message must be open in front of you before you can proceed.

View Your Text Message History
The history of your text messages can save up to 250 texts at a time. The Overwrite old messages box in the messaging settings lets you select whether or not the handset will overwrite old messages if you have more than this amount of messages stored on the device. Please read the “Configure Your Text Message Settings” page for further details.
Inbox, Drafts, and Sent messages are the three different lists that the messages appear in. When you go to the Messaging section, the Inbox will be shown to you.
- Press Menu .
- Navigate to the Messaging menu.
- To proceed to the next screen, press the right button on the Navigation ring.
Reply to a Text Message from Your Text History
You can respond to a text message at a later time by accessing the history of your text messages.
- Press Menu .
- Navigate to the Messaging menu.
- Bring attention to the message.
- Activate the reply button.

Delete a Text Message from the Text Message History
You have the option to remove a text message in the text history by accessing the folder for that message in either your Inbox, Drafts, or Sent messages.
- Press Menu .
- Navigate to the Messaging menu.
- To view the proper folder, navigate to the right on the ring that controls navigation.
- Click the More button.
- Choose Delete Message.
- Give the answer “Yes.”
Delete all Text Messages from the Text Message History
You have the ability to remove any and all text messages that are stored in the text history of your Inbox, Drafts, or Sent folders.
- Press Menu .
- Navigate to the Messaging menu.
- To view the proper folder, navigate to the right on the ring that controls navigation.
- Click the More button.
- Choose Delete all messages.
- Give the answer “Yes.”
Configure Your Text Message Settings
You have the option of programming the following functions into your handset:
- When the text message history exceeds its maximum capacity, older messages will be overwritten. You are able to store a maximum of 250 messages. When the phone’s text message history is full, if you have not enabled the handset to overwrite old messages, you will be required to delete texts manually.
- Keep a record of the texts you’ve sent in the history of your messages. Your text message history will include any texts that you have sent, as this is the default setting.
- You can customize how your handset alerts you to a new message when it is idle. You have the option of configuring the handset so that it does the following actions:
- Only the fact that you have a new message should be displayed.
- Immediately display the entirety of the message. This is the setting that is used by default.
- Press Menu .
- Go to the Settings menu under the Messaging tab.
- Select the option to Overwrite the old, then press either On or Off. This option is always toggled off by the system by default.
- Select Sent Messages, then press either the On or Off button. This option has the On setting selected by default.
- Select Display, and then push the On or Off button. This option has the On setting selected by default.
